The info box says Byleth first appeared in a mobile game, the trivia says they are the first character to debut on Switch. Clearly a contradiction so we need to decide which is it. First Mobile character or first Switch character. I'd say first Switch as Sonic isn't counted as an Arcade character for his promotional appearance. (Between Byleth in Hero and Roy in Smash, Fire Emblem has a history.) Guybrush20X6 (talk) 17:33, January 16, 2020 (EST)
To all the Byleth haters
It’s just a fictional videogame character so don’t complain about him or her. It’s Sakurai’s choice, not yours. He/she might be a Marth recolor that’s boring but people who don’t want Byleth in the game are probably people who want Waluigi the assist trophy in too. Too bad Cuphead won’t be playable though. 174.55.24.64 22:35, January 16, 2020 (EST)

It wasn't Sakurai's choice, it was Nintendo who chose the DLC characters. SammyTFM (talk) 14:23, January 18, 2020 (EST)
Why?
Just... why? I really wanted Hat Kid (Don't judge indie potential, if Shovel Knight exists in the world of smash, then so could the lassie!) to join the roster. we already have enough Fire Emblem characters as is!
(And fyi SammyTFM, technically Cuphead will be a Mii Gunner costume so... yeah.)

Surname
Shouldn't the title address Byleth as Byleth Eisner like how Terry is Terry Bogard or how Samus is Samus Aran? Pratikmii03 (talk) 19:55, January 18, 2020 (EST)
- Unlike Samus Aran or Terry Bogard, as far as I know Byleth is never actually referred to by their last name. Only their father has his last name given, but it's very possible for a child to have a different last name from their parent. Even then, last names are very minor in Fire Emblem, usually only briefly mentioned, so even then it's unnecessary. 72.203.118.154 01:47, January 19, 2020 (EST)
- Hmm, that’s a good question. I wanted to ask that as well. SonDaniel (talk page) 20:01, April 7, 2020 (EDT)
Spoilers
Can we tone down on the spoilers? 3H is still very knew and is inevitably going to grow after Challenger Pack 5 releases, so spoilers on its story should be avoided Pepdog2 (talk) 21:50, January 21, 2020 (EST)
- As per SW:NOT, SmashWiki is not spoiler-free. And besides the only thing spoiled past mid-game afaik is the true origin of the Heroes' Relics. DekZek 22:02, January 21, 2020 (EST)
Not OP, but there should be spoiler warnings like on Bulbapedia 73.12.78.171 14:19, June 23, 2020 (EDT)
- Again, SmashWiki is not spoiler-safe. In addition, just because other wikis do something, it does not mean we have to. Awesomelink234, the Super Cool Gamer (talk) 14:35, June 23, 2020 (EDT)
Outdated info
"With a July 2019 debut, Byleth is currently the most recent fighter in Super Smash Bros. history."
No
(I'm too scared to edit)
Iluvchess (talk) 12:56, June 23, 2020 (EDT)
It is still a correct information; it states that their debut in any game, not just Smash, is the most recent one of any currently playable character. If you were thinking about Min Min, ARMS came out in June 2017, while Dragon Quest XI, for the Luminary, first came out on July 2017 in Japan. Also, you shouldn't be scared to edit, even if you add once a wrong information it's not the end of the world. --Rdrfc (talk) 14:01, June 23, 2020 (EDT)
Thank you! And yes, I was thinking of Min Min

Move request
Byleth is the only character I could find with a confirmed surname to not have that surname as either part of the page name nor the lede. I realize that most FE characters are mononymous; however, so are most Street Fighter characters, and that didn't stop us from giving Ken Masters his page name. Three Houses seems to be an exception in mononymity anyways, as a majority of the characters mention their last names constantly, such as Ferdinand von Aegir in his battle quotes. Edelgard von Hresvelg, the main antagonist of 3H, has a Wikipedia page under her full name. I also realize Byleth also has a Wikiedia page, without the surname as the page name, but 1. The Eisner surname is listed in the lede anyways, and 2. Smashwiki and Wikipedia are different, as Wikipedia strives to list the most notable stuff, while to my understanding Smashwiki's goal is to list everything. Unnamed anon (talk) 14:24, March 1, 2023 (EST)
- Oppose. While most characters in Three Houses emphasize their full names, Byleth does not. Granted, that's probably because Byleth is named [INSERT NAME HERE] in Three Houses, but even so they're never referred to as "[INSERT NAME HERE] Eisner". Outside of FE3H, whenever they go by their canonical name, it's just Byleth. I don't think the surname Eisner is ever canonically applied to Byleth4. At least, not to my knowledge; if I am wrong, please inform me. But at least, going off this Tumblr post and its replies, it sounds like a (logical) fan extrapolation instead of anything definitively stated in canon.
- Regardless, characters like Samus Aran, Fox McCloud, Simon Belmont, and Cloud Strife are well-known by their full names outside of Smash. I don't think most fans would recognize Eisner as Byleth's surname, and instead simply think of them as just Byleth. Besides, if we were to rename this article "Byleth Eisner" because Eisner may be their canonical surname despite never being used as such, it could potentially open the door to renaming Zero Suit Samus and Dark Samus to "Zero Suit Samus Aran" and "Dark Samus Aran"... or maybe even Mario and Luigi to "Mario Mario" and "Luigi Mario"! Okay, yes, I admit that's a slippery slope argument, but it's an example of other pages that don't use surnames that are canonically supported (Zero Suit Samus, Mario, Luigi) or would logically make sense as an extrapolation even if it's never used (Dark Samus), much like Byleth's surname Eisner. -PeabodySam (talk) 23:31, March 1, 2023 (EST)
- Oppose, the problem is that Byleth is never referred to with a last name in Three Houses and most fans just call them Byleth while characters in-game them professor or teacher. It’s not like other characters like Samus and Terry where their last names are well known. Thegameandwatch The Nerd 09:23, March 2, 2023 (EST)
