The Rage Drive (レイジドライブ, Rage Drive) is a special move accessible to Kazuya when he is under the effects of Rage (レイジ, Rage).

Rage

Kazuya under the effects of Rage. Notice the glowing red name under his damage meter.

Kazuya has access to a special ability called Rage (not to be confused with the universal rage mechanic). It will activate once Kazuya has sustained 100% damage or is at 25% of his maximum health in Stamina mode. During this state he will be surrounded by a red aura, while the namespace under the damage meter will glow red. Rage will power up all of Kazuya's attacks by 1.1× so long as it is active; it does not have a time limit, but will expire from a combination of damage taken by Kazuya and Rage Drives missed by him; successfully performing a Rage Drive will also remove Rage. Kazuya must lose a stock before being able to access Rage again. Being healed under the Rage threshold won't remove the status.

The formula for the depletion of Rage is (Number of missed grabs or down specials × 110) + (Damage taken during Rage × 17.6) ≥ 650.

Number of missed Rage Drives Damage sustained (1v1) Damage sustained (other)
0 36.93% 57.93%
1 30.68% 48.16%
2 24.43% 38.32%
3 18.18% 28.52%
4 11.93% 18.72%
5 5.68% 8.91%
6 0% 0%

Rage Drive

When under the effects of Rage and grounded, Kazuya can use his Rage Drive. In effect, it is a more powerful variation of Heaven's Door, which will fittingly trigger Special Zoom. there are three main ways to activate Rage Drive. Grabbing the opponent (except through Gates of Hell) or using Heaven's Door while grounded automatically turns into the Rage Drive. Alternatively, performing a command input version of the Rage Drive, with → ↓ ↘ + holding the attack button will unleash an even more powerful version of the attack; normally, this would perform a Dragon Uppercut instead. The command input version is significantly stronger than a normal Rage Drive and can be inputted out of a Crouch Dash; as such, it serves as a powerful approach tool.

Origin

Rage was introduced in Tekken 6. The effect activates when a character reaches 10% of their health (changed to 5% in Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion and changed again to 20% in Tekken 7). While in Rage, the fighter gains a red aura and their health bar glows red, which is reflected in Ultimate. Rage increases damage output on a character's moves, not unlike the Smash version of rage. It acts as what is colloquially known as a "comeback mechanic," as it gives losing players some help to possibly turn the tide of the fight in their favor.

Rage Drives were introduced in Tekken 7: Fated Retribution as one of the abilities characters can only use while in Rage. These attacks are essentially powerful modified versions of regular moves, often with higher damage and/or more armor. Rage Drives generally open up combo opportunites and allow the player to escape pressure from the opponent. Like with Rage Arts, its sister mechanic, only one Rage Drive can be used per round, as using it instantly removes Rage.
