World of Light (灯火の星, The Star of Light) is a single-player mode in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Similar to the adventure modes in Melee and Brawl, it revolves around the fighters teaming up with Spirits to defeat an "ultimate enemy" named Galeem. The mode will feature characters from various series, as well as bosses from previous Smash games, such as Galleom from The Subspace Emissary.

Trivia

  • The inverse of World of Light's Japanese name can be read as 星の火灯, which is pronounced similarly to 星のカービィ (Kirby of the Stars), the Japanese name of the Kirby series.
    • Perhaps not coincidentally, Kirby is the only one who survived Galeem's fatal attack (via Warp Star teleport), making him the starting playable character in this mode.
  • Unlike the cutscenes in The Subspace Emissary where characters interacted with each other without dialogue, many characters are shown to speak directly to each other in this mode's opening scene. It is unknown if this will be repeated in subsequent scenes, if it is exclusive to the intro, or if any other cutscenes exist at all.
  • The announcement for the spirit adventure mode was announced on November 1st, 2018. Being the day after Halloween (Oct. 31st) and before All Souls' Day (Nov. 2nd). Both of which are associated with "spirits".
    • Also when spirit mode was announced, the direct stated "not the spooky kind", which was most likely referencing that the day before was Halloween.
