King K. Rool (キングクルール, King K. Rool) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He was announced as a newcomer in the Ultimate-centric Nintendo Direct on August 8, 2018. Rather than being voiced by Toshihide Tsuchiya, his voice actor in Donkey Kong games since Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, King K. Rool uses realistic crocodile sound effects to represent his voice, similarly to Bowser, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong.

• K. Rool's design is based on his appearance in the original Donkey Kong Country, with his cape going down to his waist instead of stopping at his middle back and his belly having its golden sheen. His scales are also more pronounced than any other appearance. However, his smaller crown and more expressive eyes come from his more recent appearances.
• K. Rool dashes on all four limbs, akin to real-life alligators and crocodiles.

Known moveset

• He uses various moves from his appearances in the Donkey Kong Country games:
  • His crown throw from the original Donkey Kong Country. It appears that K. Rool can only have one crown out at a time, and it can be Pocketed.
  • Blunderbuss: His blunderbuss from Donkey Kong Country 2. K. Rool also puts on the pirate hat he wears under the persona Kaptain K. Rool in the latter game. After firing a cannonball, the Blunderbuss can vacuum up either the cannonball or other opponents and shoot them back out, similar to King Dedede's Inhale.
  • His helicopter backpack from Donkey Kong Country 3, presumably his up special move. It is similar to Snake's Cypher.
  • His boxing gloves from Donkey Kong 64, which appears to be his forward smash.
• Stomach Attack: A counterattack, which involves K. Rool inflating his belly to knock the attacker away.
• An aerial dropkick, similar to Diddy Kong's forward aerial.
• A belly-first lunge with armor. Based on an attack from Donkey Kong Land.
• A burying stomp.
• A throw where K. Rool holds the opponent over his shoulders and leaps past the upper blast-line, presumably his up throw. Similar to Kirby's and Charizard's up throws.
• Blast-O-Matic: K. Rool's Final Smash, which is based on the game over screen from Donkey Kong 64. After dashing into his foes, he uses his Blast-O-Matic to destroy Donkey Kong Island with his victims on it.
• A taunt where K. Rool viciously snaps forward, similar to Bowser's side taunt.
• A taunt where K. Rool does a sumo-esque stomp.
• A taunt where K. Rool humorously slaps his belly.

Trivia

• King K. Rool is the third foreign-created character to be playable in Smash Bros., following Diddy Kong and Dark Samus, being created by the British Rare.
• This is the first time in a decade where K. Rool has made a physical appearance, as opposed to references such as trophies and costumes, as his last appearance was in Mario Super Sluggers.
• King K. Rool is the only playable character from the Donkey Kong universe to not be a member of the Kong family.
