Super Smash Bros. Ultimate winners Mexico Sparg0

Smash Ultimate Summit 4 was a major Super Smash Bros. Ultimate invitational tournament. It was the fourth installment of the Smash Summit series for Ultimate, and was held on March 3rd-6th, 2022 at the Summit Gaming House, a private residence house in Los Angeles, California, which is closed to the general public.

After months of placing in the top 3 at majors without winning, Sparg0 finally claimed his first major victory after defeating MkLeo once and Light twice. ProtoBanham also saw an incredible run despite starting on the loser's side of the Group Stage, defeating Dabuz, Tweek, and MkLeo en route to a 3rd place finish. On the other hand, this marked the first offline singles tournament since Get On My Level 2019 where MkLeo did not make grand finals, instead placing 4th.

Trivia

  • Tweek became the first winner of a previous offline Smash Summit to not be invited to the following one, albeit from qualifying at Mainstage 2021 before anyone was invited.
  • A running joke among the Japanese players at the tournament was that they would say "Kazuya Mishima" before, during, and after playing in a match.
  • ProtoBanham became the highest placing player in a Smash Summit that started the final bracket from loser's side, finishing 3rd. Prior to this, Hungrybox and iBDW finished 4th in Smash Summit 6 and Smash Summit 8 respectively after both starting the final bracket from loser's.
  • This tournament marked the highest a Jigglypuff player had placed at an Ultimate major, with BassMage finishing at 7th place (later tied by his performance at the open bracket major MAJOR UPSET to also place 7th).
  • During the event, Marss accidentally damaged a TV after throwing a Don't Break The Ice penguin at it.[1]
