Porky's Theme Spirit Battle inspiration:
  • Lucas represents the Masked Man, the reconstructed form of Lucas' twin brother, Claus, while his grey costume features the Masked Man's head as part of his shirt design.
  • The stage is based on New Pork City, the main city setting of Chapter 8 in Mother 3, which features the Masked Man as the final boss, while the stage's background features the Empire Porky Building, the tallest building in the city where the Masked Man is battled in the underground caverns accessible through the building's elevator.
  • The music track represents the musical theme of Porky Minch, the main antagonist of Mother 3, who reconstructed and brainwashed Claus into the Masked Man to serve him as his loyal "robot".
  • Lucas starting off with a Beam Sword and his PK Starstorm Final Smash featuring shooting stars reference the Masked Man's electric sword, which creates powerful lightning bolts that easily knocks out Lucas' party members before he battles the Masked Man.

Other trivia:
  • This spirit's Attack type and Sword Attack ↑ ability reference the Masked Man's high Offense stats and proficiency with his electric sword in Mother 3.

Mother 3 Love Theme Spirit Battle inspiration:
  • The orange Lucas' costume is based on Claus, Lucas' twin brother in Mother 3, while the grey Metal Lucas minion represents Claus' reconstructed form, the Masked Man.
  • The stage represents the Sunshine Forest, a forested area in Nowhere Islands in Mother 3 which features Claus' hometown of Tazmily Village.
  • The music track features the musical theme of Hinawa, the deceased mother of Claus whose voice helps him break free from his reconstruction, which plays during Claus' death in Chapter 8.
  • The Metal Lucas minion starting off with a Beam Sword, the Strengthen Weapon rule, and battle conditions reference Claus' reconstruction into the Masked Man after Chapter 1, where Claus is gravely injured trying to kill the Mecha-Drago and goes missing for three years, but later returns as the brainwashed Masked Man, who is armed with a powerful electric sword.

Other trivia:
  • This spirit's Neutral type references Claus' role in Mother 3 as an initial ally until his reconstruction into the villainous Masked Man.
  • In World of Light, the Claus spirit is featured on Dharkon's side of the Final Battle map while the Hinawa spirit is featured across from him on Galeem's side, referencing how both characters are deceased members of Lucas' family whose roles are opposite in Mother 3, with Claus serving as the major unwilling antagonist who dies at the end of the game.

The Masked Man spirit's
sprite before and after the
version 2.0.0 update, respectively.
  • EarthBound, Pikmin, and R.O.B. are the only series represented by a fighter to use real life photographs for their spirits.
  • EarthBound, Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Ice Climber, and Pac-Man are the only series represented by a fighter to use in-game sprite art for some or all of their spirits.
  • Despite having his own clay model artwork, Master Belch uses his sprite instead for his spirit artwork.
    • Similarly, Starman and Ramblin' Evil Mushroom use their Super Smash Bros. Ultimate artwork rather than their clay models for their spirit artwork.
  • Prior to version 2.0.0, the sprite for the Masked Man spirit was cropped from a piece of fan art, which has three differently colored pixels on or adjacent to his helmet. Other features that would normally be seen in the cropped area of the fan-made sprite, being the shadow beneath him and a portion of a separate sprite included in the fan art, were still present in the spirit's sprite, albeit hidden through image masking.[1] Version 2.0.0 updated the spirit, as well as its appearance in the Inventory menu, to use the Masked Man's proper sprite from Mother 3,[2] with many other EarthBound spirits receiving similar updates to their sprites.[3]
  • The Absolutely Safe Capsule spirit has the highest defense stat of any spirit with 4,886 at level 1 and 10,000 at level 99. It also has the lowest attack stat at 0, and is the only primary spirit that can not increase its attack stat.
    • The Absolutely Safe Capsule is also the only summoned spirit that requires another summoned spirit to obtain.
