—Introduction Tagline

Terry (テリー, Terry) is an upcoming playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He was officially announced in the September 4th, 2019 Nintendo Direct as the fourth downloadable character from the Fighters Pass. He is classified as Fighter #74 and scheduled for release in November 2019.

Attributes

  • Terry's design most closely resembles how he appears in The King of Fighters 2000, while his animations appear to be modeled after The King of Fighters XII and XIII.
  • An animation where he adjusts his cap, most likely an idle animation.
  • Similar to Ryu and Ken, sound effects from the original Fatal Fury are used when hitting opponents instead of the typical knockback sounds.
  • The brief gameplay footage released shows him performing two moves from Fatal Fury:
    • Power Wave: A punch to the ground that shoots a fiery projectile, most likely his neutral special.
    • Burn Knuckle: A move where he launches forward and punches the opponent, most likely his side special.

Trivia

  • Terry's reveal trailer makes several references to other SNK titles.
    • The beginning of the trailer shows an invitation falling into Kyo Kusanagi's hand, that sequence taken directly from the opening of The King of Fighters '94, the message ending with [S] is a reference to Rugal Bernstein ending the message with his initial [R] as well as Smash director Masahiro Sakurai.
    • Ryo Sakazaki's cut-in is a sequence taken from The King of Fighters '96's intro.
    • Joe Higashi and Andy Bogard's appearance features a sequence from Fatal Fury Special.
    • Geese Howard falling from his tower references Geese's demise at the end of Fatal Fury: The King of Fighters.
    • Nakoruru's sequence is from the Vs. screen of Samurai Shodown II.
    • Iori Yagami's sequence is taken directly from The King of Fighters '95, his laughter is his signature win pose.
    • Terry's silhouette is from Real Bout Fatal Fury.
  • Terry's inclusion marks the second time Capcom and SNK (and, more specifically, Street Fighter and Fatal Fury) have crossed over in a fighting game developed by Bandai Namco, as Akuma and Geese (antagonists of Street Fighter and Fatal Fury, respectively) previously crossed over in Tekken 7. Said game also featured Noctis Lucis Caelum from Final Fantasy XV.
    • Additionally, disregarding the aforementioned guest characters, this is the first time Capcom and SNK characters have appeared in a crossover fighting game since the SNK vs. Capcom series.
