The Beetle (ビートル, Bītoru) is a new item in Super Smash Bros. 4 from The Legend of Zelda series. It was announced on Miiverse on January 28th, 2014 as a usable item.

In Super Smash Bros. 4

The Beetle is a throwable item in at least the Wii U version. Once picked up, users can throw the Beetle towards opponents, which will grab them and fly up with them. Caught players will be carried up past the upper blast line for a KO regardless of their damage, with no hope of escaping (On July 25 at the San Diego Comic-Con, a player was seen escaping from a beetle. It's unknown whether this is a bug or not). However, the Beetle can be knocked away in midair with conventional attacks when thrown.

Origin

The Beetle first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. It is effectively a replacement for the Boomerang, in that it is capable of cutting ropes, dealing minor damage to weaker enemies, and collecting items for Link. Unlike the Boomerang, it can be upgraded to pick up bombs and drop them, and it cannot be used directly in battle to stun larger enemies.
