It's also possible that, depending on the exact coding of the wiki, deleted pages actually have a higher computational overhead to process for things like links, [[Special:AllPages]], and so on. Since I believe the primary justification is flawed, and I can't think of another advantage significant enough to overcome the arduous process of doing this, I oppose.
