Charizard (Lizardon; リザードン, Rizādon) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl in a sense; it is one of three Pokémon that can be played when you select Pokémon Trainer from the game's character select screen, the other two being Squirtle and Ivysaur. Like Pit and Meta Knight, Charizard is able to glide and jump multiple times in mid-air. However, Charizard's glide is somewhat less maneuverable than Pit's and Metaknight's.

Charizard has a suprisingly fast running speed, though it is true to its speed stat in the Pokémon games. However, it has one of the slowest walking speeds in the game. It is the 5th heaviest character. Charizard cannot be used by the Pokemon Trainer (SSBB) until the Pokemon Trainer Battles and captures it.

Charizard also apeared in SSB, and SSBM as a pokeball item pokemon (non-playable in SSBM, and SSB.)

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Fast run-speed
  • Multiple midair Jumps (3)

  • High-damaging, moderate-ranged attacks
  • Rock Smash has huge knockback and damage
  • Very heavy
  • Down Throw can KO at high percents
  • Up-B gives Super Armor Frames
  • U-Air is quick, can juggle well, and works well with it's multiple jumps.

  • Long range, powerful tilt attacks.

Cons:

  • Very slow walk speed
  • Lacks a quick, high-knockback finisher
  • Large target
  • Pokemon Change is easily punishable and is mandatory due to the stamina mechanic and the fact that Charizard comes back as Squirtle if KO'd.
