Trivia

Masked Man Spirit (pre-2.0.0).pngEdited Masked Man battle sprite from Mother 3
Magnify-clip.pngMagnify-clip.png
The Masked Man spirit's
sprite before and after the
version 2.0.0 update, respectively.
  • EarthBound, Pikmin, and R.O.B. are the only series represented by a fighter to use real life photographs for their spirits.
  • EarthBound, Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Ice Climber, and Pac-Man are the only series represented by a fighter to use in-game sprite art for some or all of their spirits.
  • Despite having his own clay model artwork, Master Belch uses his sprite instead for his spirit artwork.
    • Similarly, Starman and Ramblin' Evil Mushroom use their Super Smash Bros. Ultimate artwork rather than their clay models for their spirit artwork.
  • Prior to version 2.0.0, the sprite for the Masked Man spirit was cropped from a piece of fan art, which has three differently colored pixels on or adjacent to his helmet. Other features that would normally be seen in the cropped area of the fan-made sprite, being the shadow beneath him and a portion of a separate sprite included in the fan art, were still present in the spirit's sprite, albeit hidden through image masking.[1] Version 2.0.0 updated the spirit, as well as its appearance in the Inventory menu, to use the Masked Man's proper sprite from Mother 3,[2] with many other EarthBound spirits receiving similar updates to their sprites.[3]
  • The Absolutely Safe Capsule spirit has the highest defense stat of any spirit with 4,886 at level 1 and 10,000 at level 99. It also has the lowest attack stat at 0, and is the only primary spirit that can not increase its attack stat.
    • The Absolutely Safe Capsule is also the only summoned spirit that requires another summoned spirit to obtain.
