Vulpix is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Red and Blue, though it was exclusive to Blue, acting as the equivalent to Growlithe. It evolves into Ninetales with the help of a Fire Stone.

In Pokémon Sun and Moon, several Generation I Pokémon received Alolan regional variants to accommodate for the climate changes in the game — among those was Vulpix, who received an Ice-type variant, with its evolution now requiring an Ice Stone and Ninetails changing to an Ice/Fairy-type. An Alolan Vulpix nicknamed "Snowy" (シロン, Shiron) is featured in the Sun and Moon animated series as Lillie's first Pokémon, having hatched from an egg.
