The Beetle is an item from The Legend of Zelda series. It was announced on Miiverse on January 28th, 2014 as a usable item.
Origin
The Beetle first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. It is effectively a replacement for the Boomerang, in that it is capable of cutting ropes, dealing minor damage to weaker enemies, and collecting items for Link. Unlike the Boomerang, it can be upgraded to pick up bombs and drop them, and it cannot be used directly in battle to stun larger enemies.
In the Super Smash Bros series
The Beetle is a grabbing item in at least the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. 4. Once picked up, users can shoot the Beetle towards opponents, which will grab enemies and fly off with them. It is currently unknown how far the Beetle can fly before and after it picks someone up.
