Get On My Level 2023 was a Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate supermajor held in Toronto, Ontario, from July 21st-23rd, 2023.
Tournament summary
Get On My Level 2023 was the second Canadian supermajor for both games in 2023, as well as the largest Melee and Ultimate tournament in Canada. At 1,592 total Smash entrants, this is also the largest Smash event in Canada.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Zain won the tournament in a commanding fashion, dropping only a single game to Mang0 in Grand Finals. Many commentators and players considered Zain's victory in this tournament to have sealed his ranking at #1 on the SSBMRank Summer 2023, of which GOML was the last tournament within the ranking period. Jmook was notably upset early in the tournament, losing 0-3 to Morsecode762 and then 0-3 to Skerzo in loser's to finish at 33rd, his lowest placement in Melee singles since Super Smash Con 2017. This tournament marked Khalid's first international event, who made Top 8 of Melee singles alongside Hungrybox. He is the third unique Jigglypuff player to make Top 8 with Hungrybox at a Melee major since 2014 (following s0ft at Apex 2014 and 2saint at GENESIS 9).
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The first day of singles saw the largest upset of the season, with #159 seed BIGDUCKHUNTFAN7000 upsetting #2 seed Tweek 3-1 (upset factor 13). Other notable upsets include #52 seed Grape defeating #13 seed Big D (upset factor 4) and #235 seed Willz defeating #22 seed Anathema (upset factor 7); both Big D and Anathema ultimately placed 49th, their lowest placement at an Ultimate major.
On second day of singles, the main stream faced technical difficulties due to the stream's computer malfunctioning. This led to sets in top 32 being left unstreamed, including Dabuz vs Tweek, or relegated to the quad stream, which featured no commentary and was shared with Melee. In the top 32 bracket, the top four seeds all competed in Loser's side prior to top 8, with #1 seed Sparg0 losing to #9 seed Zomba 3-1 (upset factor 6), #3 seed Light losing to #14 seed Maister 3-2 (upset factor 5), and #4 seed MkLeo losing to #5 seed Sonix 3-0. Ultimately, only MkLeo failed to qualify for top 8, as he was eliminated by Light 3-1 at 9th. On the other hand, the Winner's side saw two unexpected faces: #86 seed Atreus, who upset Maister 3-2 (upset factor 5); and #26 seed Tilde, who upset #10 seed Kurama 3-1. Both players ultimately finished 5th and 3rd, respectively, with Tilde's run marking the best performance for a Falco player at a major up to that point.
After losing to Zomba, Sparg0 made a strong Loser's bracket run, defeating Kurama, Light, Atreus, Zomba in the runback, and Tilde to enter Grand Finals against Sonix, leading jokes to how the Grand Finals was just another Coinbox Grand Final. Sonix ultimately defeated Sparg0 3-1, marking Sonix's second-ever major win, and first-ever supermajor win.
