Item class Throwing/Effect

The Smoke Ball (ケムリ玉, Smoke Ball) is an item in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. 4, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. When thrown, the ball emits smoke, which steadily changes color (though it remains grey on the 3DS version), which may obscure the vision of players. If thrown at an opponent, it may attach itself to them and do a small amount of damage. When not attached to a player, the Smoke Ball can be picked up. If thrown upward, a Smoke Ball will bounce very high upon hitting the ground. When a player holds an activated Smoke Ball, it will continue to release smoke until it is released and eventually disappears. The Smoke Ball produces more vision-obscuring smoke in Super Smash Bros. 4.

Trophy

Smoke Ball
An item that activates when tossed and fills the area with clouds of obscuring smoke. The smoke slowly changes color over time, from white to yellow, orange, red, purple, and finally blue before restarting the cycle. The smoke hangs around quite a while before dispersing. You can pick up an active smoke ball and hurl it again. Be careful not to lose track of yourself, though.

North America Ack! It's hard to see through all the smoke this ball lets off. You can throw this around a stage, obscuring the view, or stick it to opponents and really annoy them. The smoke itself doesn't do any damage, but there's definitely an advantage to concealing the battlefield.

Europe A pesky little item that produces a thick cloud of smoke wherever it's thrown, making it impossible to see properly. You can pick it up and throw it again as often as you like. Try hitting an opponent with it - it might stick to them! The smoke itself is harmless, but it's great for ambushing!

Trivia

  • If Luigi uses Negative Zone while holding an activated Smoke Ball, the smoke's color will not be affected.
  • If Snake uses Grenade Launcher while an activated Smoke Ball is attached to him, the Smoke Ball will still release smoke even while he is in the foreground, which can cover the entire screen.
  • Any existing smoke will instantly vanish when its parent Smoke Ball disappears (instead of fading away).
