:I'm gonna go with my gut here. There's no real concrete description, but generally, an amateur is someone who doesn't attend tournaments and has little skill, and has only played against pros in friendlies, if at all. Basically a no-namer. A pro-am is someone who goes to tournaments but doesn't make big impacts in regionals, or can only do well in very small tournaments. A semi-pro is someone who can hold footing with stronger players, may be ranked on their PRs, and usually makes it out of pools at regionals, but doesn't make money from playing because they don't place very high. --[[User:Timson622222|Timson622222]] ([[User talk:Timson622222#top|talk]]) 22:47, 7 June 2014 (EDT) | :I'm gonna go with my gut here. ::As I understand it, matchups haven't really had an update (all 3 games) 5+ years, putting both Melee and '64 horribly out of date. Brawl?[edit]
Some questions/comments[edit]
First off the formatting is amazing on your matchup subpage and I need to steal some of it. Second, I see you play SSF2 as well. What do you think of the chars? If you need a competitive scoop look no further than me. Hint: Sonic is top tier and Peach is crap. Finally, are you up for a Brawl this weekend if I am available? Who thought Amsa was a fraud?[edit]
I'm curious. Amsa's article states that skeptics of Amsa thought that he'd be "exposed as the fraud that he was." I'm not doubting any skepticism given his main, but "fraud" is a serious charge. I'm not even sure one can commit fraud in the Smash scene without bribing other smashers to lose. Was it in the commentary or something? blue ninjakoopa 15:49, 30 January 2014 (EST)
- "Fraud" is a generic fighting game community term for "overhyped" or "underpreformer", with no connotations to the normal English usage of the word. I do think the page could do without the term though. Toomai Glittershine The Researcher 16:26, 30 January 2014 (EST)
- Vocal critics claimed he was too overhyped and some even went as far to call him a "fraud" on social media. They were saying that although he was probably the best Yoshi, he beat no one worth mentioning except Mr. F (who is not even a ranked player) and just got a bunch of byes to advance, and anyone who was ranked could easily take him out at other tournaments. I'll remove the term, though, as it does have negative social connotations that not everyone might understand. --Timson622222 (talk) 20:44, 30 January 2014 (EST)

- I have read it, and I have understood his perspective a little bit better since. It's just that the circumstances surrounding his forfeit were initially very vague and there was a lot of misinformation spreading around, so I was a bit more upset/offset at first. Brawl matchups[edit]
Heisann, editor formerly known as Timson.
As someone who I seem to recall being more well-versed in this Brawl thing than I am, is the "current" matchup chart for Brawl still considered accurate, or have there been enough metagame changes since its publication that warrant it as outdated as our Melee matchup charts? Asking for this forum, trying to get a number of opinions.
--- Monsieur Crow, Author Extraordinaire, 22:54, 24 June 2017 (EDT)
- Heyo. I'm not too familiar with Brawl's scene as a whole, but here's how I view it.
- 2013-2014 was around when Melee started to pick up speed again while Brawl was on the decline. Since the matchup chart was made in 2013, which was around the end of Brawl's popularity, I feel like it is still a solid representation of Brawl matchups, at least moreso than Melee's. How are some of the matchups I added there depicted? I think his current metagame improved slightly but his perception remains more or less the same. MemeDedede (talk) 11:38, September 29, 2019 (EDT)
