Character Placements and Reasoning

S Tier

All characters in this tier are viable in all scenarios and are the best picks for tournament play. They almost never require another character to cover their bad matchups, mostly due to their lack thereof, and can also be excellent secondaries for people with a B tier or lower as their main.

1. Pikachu

I firmly believe Pikachu is the best character in Smash 4. He has one of the best, if not the best, approach, combo, and edgeguarding abilities in the whole game. Pikachu is extremely hard to combo himself. Quick Attack is arguably the best move in the entire game as it grants Pikachu a near-unpunishable mobility option that he can also use as an approach option, to extend combos, and return to the stage from just about anywhere. Thunder can cover all of the opponents recovery options, can be comboed into from Up Throw, and can meteor smash opponents into a smash attack for the kill. Thunder Jolt can also force approaches, causing Pikachu to be able to punish mistakes. Pikachu also has what I believe to be the best matchup spread in the game, with the only characters going even against him being Luigi, Wario, and MAYBE Yoshi (Yes, this means I do believe Sheik looses to Pikachu.) Pikachu's only real issues are his poor KO ability and weight, but his positive traits drastically outweigh this. I don't see where else I can put a character with these phenomenal tools with so much utility.

2. Sheik

This one is a no brainer. Everyone knows Sheik is really good in this game and she deserves top 2 without question. The reason I have her below Pikachu is that I feel her moveset his less overall utility than Pikachu's, but they're still pretty close to each other tier wise.
