Animal Crossing versionEdit

I have reason to believe this stage is set in the forthcoming game, Animal Crossing: City Folk. I have four reasons for this hunch:

  • The song "2 a.m." does not appear in Wild World, but does in SSBB.
  • The characters are far more rendered than their Wild World counterparts. K.K. Slider's stage is also different to his normal Roost venue
  • "SmashVille" is too large a name for AC:WW, and I think (not certain) the original game on the NGC.
  • Perhaps most telling, the museum in the background of SmashVille has a river running in front of it, but crucially has no Holding Pond. In AC:WW, all (and I mean all) cities have a Holding Pond in the same 'acre' as their museum. On the other hand, an interface provided on a Japanese gaming website [1] seems to show museums in AC:CF will not have a holding pond. This seems to agree with SmashVille's town layout.

This leads me to the opinion that this stage is based on Animal Crossing: City Folk. I would like to add this to the article, but want permission first.

I would say that that's a valid observation, but without some sort of reference, it's just speculation at this point. You may add it to the article, but I'd present it as a possibility instead of a fact until we can corroborate that info. --RJM Talk 16:56, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Should we add a trivia section beacause of this possibility? MarioGalaxy {talk} 16:57, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

The only other thing that I've noticed is that when you select the stage, the logo is quite clearly Wild World's, not City Folk's. Ginger Warrior (talk) 17:00, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Ginger Warrior

I think this is intended to be (at least officially) a generic Animal Crossing stage, much like Mario Circuit for Mario Kart, Lylat Cruise for Star Fox, etc. and thus associating it with any one specific game is purely speculatory. 5280s (talk · contributions) 17:29, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

I've added a section. It seems neutral from where I'm sitting while giving as much information as possible. Does it seem OK? I've also not added the note about Holding Ponds. I checked Animal Crossing Community, and they show the museum does not necessarily have a Holding Pond, but the Pond can actually be located anywhere on the map. Apologies for that mistake. The 2:00 a.m. song IS in Wild World, just slower. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfRKBW-PmVE Listen closely. Rexdawn (talk) 15:18, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

WendellEdit

I'm pretty sure that I've seen Wendell on this stage in a Brawl Snapshot online. Solar flute (talk) 23:49, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Version DebateEdit

Can we just remove that section about the version 'controversy'? Animal Crossing: City Folk ws released long after Brawl. The only Wii games Brawl makes any sort of reference to outside of the Chronicle are Wii Sports, Wii Play, Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast, and technically The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Super Mario Galaxy came out the year before the release of Brawl, but Brawl only makes references to Super Mario Sunshine. Why would Brawl base a stage off of a game that hadn't even been revealed yet? The evidence supporting that the stage would be based off of City Folk is minimal. 3D models that haven't been rendered yet? What about in the GameCube game? Brawl had to render lots of new sprites for trophies anyway, such as the Starly trophy. And remember Excitebiker and Balloon Fighter from Melee? The stage select says Smashville comes from Animal Crossing: Wild World, so that should negate everything. Toast  ltimatum Complaints Box 05:01, 9 November 2011 (EST)

The points against it being from anything other than AC:WW are:
  1. The characters in the background have been rendered since their appearances in AC:WW.
    • Smash does this all the time.
  2. The name "Smashville" is too long for it to be the name of a town. "Smashville" has ten characters, while AC:WW only allows for eight, but AC:CF also has the 8 character limit.
    • It may be over the character limit for Animal Crossing, but this is not Animal Crossing. Your argument is invalid.
  3. In AC:WW, the Able Sisters shop was always next to Nook's store. This is not the case in Smashville or AC:CF.
    • lol minor technicalities
So, yeah, that section's awful. Feel free to get rid of it. PenguinofDeath 05:33, 9 November 2011 (EST)
