Umebura is a Japanese tournament series created by Ayuha following the end of the Piosuma series, and is currently hosted by Umeki. The Umebura series is one of the most prestigious Smash tournaments in Japan, with many of its tournaments, particularly in Ultimate, reaching major status. The series' largest tournament is Umebura Japan Major 2019, which is currently the second-largest tournament in Japan and the first non-American tournament to surpass 1,000 entrants.

Following the cancellation of Umebura SP 8 and Umebura Japan Major 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the series went on a 3-year long hiatus before resuming in 2023 with Umebura SP 9. Since then, Umebura tournaments have been held roughly yearly, but it remains as one of the largest events of Japan.

Rulesets
Brawl
* The only legal stages are Final Destination, Battlefield, and Smashville. Standard stage striking and Dave's Stupid Rule are used. The stagelist is the same across singles and doubles.
* The ledge grab limit is 35 in singles (a player loses if a game times out and they grabbed the ledge 36 times or more) and 50 across the team in doubles.
* 'Round-trip scrooging' is banned.
** A player may travel under the stage once (counted when the player reaches the height of the opposite ledge), but then must either land a hit or take a hit before being allowed to travel under the stage in the opposite direction.
** Landing on the stage alone does not count without inflicting or taking damage.
** The ruleset lists an exception where landing on the stage counts if the stage is Smashville and its moving platform is on the landing side and past the lip of the stage.
* In doubles, double Meta Knight is allowed. The Infinite Dimensional Cape exploit is banned in all formats.

for Wii U
The following rules applied between Umebura 11 and Umebura F.A.T.:
* Mii Fighters are banned.
* In singles, in the event of a stock and percent tie, whoever dealt the most total damage wins. If still tied, there is a 1-stock rematch on the same stage.
* In doubles, if Sudden Death occurs, whichever team dealt the most total damage wins (percent at the end of the game does not directly matter). If tied, a 1-stock rematch on the same stage takes place.
* Stagelists were not yet standardized at this time (see each individual tournament page).

The following rules applied from Umebura 20 onward:
* Mii Fighters are only allowed with 1111 customization and default sizes.
* In singles, in the event of a stock and percent tie, there is a 1-stock 2-minute rematch on the same stage.
* In doubles, if Sudden Death occurs, whichever team dealt the most total damage wins (percent at the end of the game does not directly matter). If tied, there is a 1-stock 2-minute rematch on the same stage.
* Starter stages are Final Destination, Battlefield, Smashville, Town and City, and Lylat Cruise with standard 1-2-2-1 stage striking.
* Between Umebura 20 and Umebura 25:
** Counterpick stages are Duck Hunt and Dream Land. One stage ban and Dave's Stupid Rule are used.
* Between Umebura 26 and Umebura Smash 4 Final:
** Counterpick stages are Dream Land, Midgar Ω, Suzaku Castle Ω, and Wily Castle Ω. One stage ban and the modified version of Dave's Stupid Rule are used.
** Dream Land and Battlefield are banned together, and Final Destination and all Ω forms are banned together.
* Stagelists were the same across singles and doubles.

Ultimate
* Stage hazards are off.
* Between Umebura SP and Umebura SP 4:
** Starter stages are Final Destination, Battlefield, and Pokémon Stadium 2.
** Counterpick stages are Smashville, Town and City, and Kalos Pokémon League.
* Between Umebura SP 5 and Umebura SP 7:
** Starter stages are Final Destination, Battlefield, Pokémon Stadium 2, Smashville, and Town and City.
** Counterpick stages are Lylat Cruise and Kalos Pokémon League.
* Starting from Umebura SP 9:
** Starter stages are Final Destination, Battlefield, Small Battlefield, Town and City, and Hollow Bastion.
** Counterpick stages are Pokémon Stadium 2 and Smashville.
* For all of these (all numbered tournaments in the Umebura SP series), standard stage striking is used, the winner can ban 2 stages during counterpicks, and Dave's Stupid Rule is not used.
* If a player is using a Mii Fighter, they must disclose the fighter's moveset to their opponent before the game.
* If a game times out with a stock and percent tie, Sudden Death is ignored and a 1-stock 2-minute rematch is played on the same stage.
* If a game ties due to both players losing their last stock on the same frame, Sudden Death is played out to decide the winner.

Umebura is a Japanese tournament series created by Ayuha following the end of the Piosuma series, and is currently hosted by Umeki. The Umebura series is one of the most prestigious Smash tournaments in Japan, with many of its tournaments, particularly in Ultimate, reaching major status. The series' largest tournament is Umebura Japan Major 2019, which is currently the third-largest tournament in Japan and the first non-American tournament to surpass 1,000 entrants.

RulesetsEdit

BrawlEdit

  • The only legal stages are Final Destination, Battlefield, and Smashville. Standard stage striking and Dave's Stupid Rule are used.[1] The stagelist is the same across singles and doubles.
  • The ledge grab limit is 35 in singles (a player loses if a game times out and they grabbed the ledge 36 times or more) and 50 across the team in doubles.
  • 'Round-trip scrooging' is banned.
    • A player may travel under the stage once (counted when the player reaches the height of the opposite ledge), but then must either land a hit or take a hit before being allowed to travel under the stage in the opposite direction.
    • Landing on the stage alone does not count without inflicting or taking damage.
    • The ruleset lists an exception where landing on the stage counts if the stage is Smashville and its moving platform is on the landing side and past the lip of the stage.
  • In doubles, double Meta Knight is allowed.[2] The Infinite Dimensional Cape exploit is banned in all formats.

for Wii UEdit

The following rules applied between Umebura 11 and Umebura F.A.T.:

  • Mii Fighters are banned.
  • In singles, in the event of a stock and percent tie, whoever dealt the most total damage wins. If still tied, there is a 1-stock rematch on the same stage.
  • In doubles, if Sudden Death occurs, whichever team dealt the most total damage wins (percent at the end of the game does not directly matter). If tied, a 1-stock rematch on the same stage takes place.
  • Stagelists were not yet standardized at this time (see each individual tournament page).

The following rules applied from Umebura 20 onward:

  • Mii Fighters are only allowed with 1111 customization and default sizes.
  • In singles, in the event of a stock and percent tie, there is a 1-stock 2-minute rematch on the same stage.
  • In doubles, if Sudden Death occurs, whichever team dealt the most total damage wins (percent at the end of the game does not directly matter). If tied, there is a 1-stock 2-minute rematch on the same stage.
  • Starter stages are Final Destination, Battlefield, Smashville, Town and City, and Lylat Cruise with standard 1-2-2-1 stage striking.
  • Between Umebura 20 and Umebura 25:[3]
  • Between Umebura 26 and Umebura Smash 4 Final:[4]
    • Counterpick stages are Dream Land, Midgar Ω, Suzaku Castle Ω, and Wily Castle Ω. One stage ban and the modified version of Dave's Stupid Rule are used.
    • Dream Land and Battlefield are banned together, and Final Destination and all Ω forms are banned together.
  • Stagelists were the same across singles and doubles.[5]

UltimateEdit

  • Stage hazards are off.
  • Between Umebura SP and Umebura SP 4:[6]
  • Between Umebura SP 5 and Umebura SP 7:[7]
    • Starter stages are Final Destination, Battlefield, Pokémon Stadium 2, Smashville, and Town and City.
    • Counterpick stages are Lylat Cruise and Kalos Pokémon League.
  • Starting from Umebura SP 9:[8]
    • Starter stages are Final Destination, Battlefield, Small Battlefield, Town and City, and Hollow Bastion.
    • Counterpick stages are Pokémon Stadium 2 and Smashville.
  • For all of these (all numbered tournaments in the Umebura SP series), standard stage striking is used, the winner can ban 2 stages during counterpicks, and Dave's Stupid Rule is not used.
  • If a player is using a Mii Fighter, they must disclose the fighter's moveset to their opponent before the game.
  • If a game times out with a stock and percent tie, Sudden Death is ignored and a 1-stock 2-minute rematch is played on the same stage.
  • If a game ties due to both players losing their last stock on the same frame, Sudden Death is played out to decide the winner.
