While most works on this page will be games, other forms of gaming-related media (such as ''Club Nintendo'' comics or ''Captain N: The Game Master'') are also included. However, these must be official licensed products; unofficial crossovers (especially in parodies such as ''Robot Chicken'') will not be listed here. This probably goes without saying, but any fanmade works are also exempt from this list... sorry, ''Brawl in the Family''!

An incomplete list of crossovers and cameos between franchises featured in Super Smash Bros.

General notes[edit]

This page is not a draft intended for the mainspace SmashWiki; this is just a fun side project in my sandbox. Therefore, I would appreciate it if you asked permission before editing this page. If you want to contribute to this list, then please make sure you follow the formatting that I've set up. Keep everything neatly organized and consistent.

Only characters who appear in Smash are listed on this page. Appearances include fighters, stage elements, items, trophies, stickers, and spirits. For example, Banjo and Conker both appear in Diddy Kong Racing, but since Conker does not appear in Smash in any capacity, only Banjo is listed here.

For simplicity, characters from the game's own series will not be listed under that game. There's no need to tell us that Mario appears in a Mario game!

Mario has three sub-series: Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and Wario. Many Mario games (especially spinoffs) feature characters from these sub-series, and most Yoshi games feature Mario characters. For simplicity, if sub-series characters who are commonly associated with Mario (such as Donkey Kong, Pauline, Yoshi, Kamek, and Wario) appear in a Mario game, it is not regarded as a cameo; if more obscure characters (such as Dixie Kong or Ashley) appear, then it may be regarded as a cameo. Since the Yoshi series is so closely tied to Mario, no appearances of Mario characters are considered cameos. Donkey Kong (post-arcade) and Wario tend to be more self-contained, so appearances of Mario and Yoshi characters in these games may be regarded as cameos.

The Legend of Zelda characters are vastly simplified for this list. Link is regarded as a "generic" character in Smash, so he represents any incarnation of Link that is neither the young Hero of Time nor any Toon Link. Similarly, Princess Zelda is regarded as any Princess Zelda, and the same holds true for other recurring characters (e.g. Tingle). If a particular incarnation/form has a distinct title used in Smash (such as Wolf Link or Totem Link), they may be listed separately. Fortunately, Ganondorf/Ganon is almost always the same character throughout the Zelda series, so there is no need to separately consider any individual incarnations.

In the same vein as Zelda, Donkey Kong may be listed as either the original arcade Donkey Kong or the modern post-SNES Donkey Kong. If the original Donkey Kong only appears as Cranky Kong, then it will only be listed as an appearance by Cranky Kong.

Zero Suit Samus appears in her Casual Outfit in the Smash series, indicating that it is not necessary for her to be actually wearing the Zero Suit. Therefore, any depiction of Samus outside her Power Suit (such as her "Justin Bailey" outfit) can be considered an appearance by Zero Suit Samus. However, if Samus only removes her helmet, then it is not considered an appearance by Zero Suit Samus.

It is preferred that characters directly appear in-person in order to be considered a cameo, such as Samus Aran in Kirby's Dream Land 3. Indirect appearances get a little more hazy, but they may be listed if the character makes a visible appearance (e.g. F-Zero characters appearing as decorations in Mario Kart 8, even though they don't appear in-person), with a rollover note explaining how they appear; due to the nature of the WarioWare series, all cameos in microgames would fall into this category, so the rollover note isn't necessary. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest has an interesting case: while Sonic the Hedgehog never directly appears, his shoes by the "No Hopers" sign heavily implies the character's presence, so I count it as an indirect cameo here. If a character is only mentioned, it does not count as a cameo; for example, K. Rool Avenue in Super Mario Odyssey would not count as an appearance of King K. Rool since it is only a reference to his name. If a character cannot be normally seen in-game or is otherwise dummied out (such as Bowser in Kirby Super Star, or Captain Olimar in Mario & Luigi: Super Star Saga), they are not listed here.

Sometimes, a character makes a cameo under a different name (such as Dr. Wright appearing as "Dr. Write" in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening). If it's obvious enough that it's supposed to be the same character despite the different name, then it may count as a cameo. In these cases, the character is listed by the name used in Smash, with a rollover note listing their alternate name.

"Generic" characters and enemies, such as Goombas, may be listed here; it is not necessary to be an individual, unique character. However, objects that are not characters (such as Color TV-Game 15) are currently excluded from this list, unless they are closely linked to an unnamed character (for example, Excitebike technically refers to the bike rather than the biker, but since it never appears without its biker, it is listed here).

"Alternate forms" of a character (such as Fire Mario) are generally not listed separately from the character's "base form", even if that alternate form appears in Smash. Exceptions to this are alternate forms with their own pages on SmashWiki (Dr. Mario, Ganon, Meta Ridley, Metal Mario, Tetra, Toon Link, Young Link, Zero Suit Samus, etc.) or the previously-mentioned forms of Link's incarnations.

While most works on this page will be games, other forms of gaming-related media (such as Club Nintendo comics or Captain N: The Game Master) are also included. However, these must be official licensed products; unofficial crossovers (especially in parodies such as Robot Chicken) will not be listed here. This probably goes without saying, but any fanmade works are also exempt from this list... sorry, Brawl in the Family!
