—Introduction Tagline

Jotaro (承太郎, Jotaro) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He was announced on April 1, 2019 in a Nintendo Direct aired the same day. He is classified as fighter #72.

His respective voice actors from the Stardust Crusaders anime, Matthew Mercer in English and Daisuke Ono in Japanese, reprise their roles here, with the same voice actors performing Star Platinum's attack cries in English and Japanese, respectively.

Attributes[edit]

Jotaro has a medium walking and dashing speed, comparable to that of Kirby and R.O.B.. He is a middle-heavyweight, having the same weight as Ryu and Ken. His air speed and air acceleration are low, however, as he never really fights in the air. His falling speed is around average, comparable to that of Donkey Kong and Wario.

Jotaro's Stand, Star Platinum, is incorporated into a few of his attacks, allowing for many approach options, and potentially punishes if the opponent does not take an appropriate action.

Moveset[edit]

Name Damage Description
Neutral attack 1.5% Jotaro deals three punches, each stronger than the other. After the second punch, an infinite can be performed, in which Jotaro summons Star Platinum, who performs his signature rapid-fire punches while yelling "ORAORAORAORAORA" for as long as it performed. For the finisher, Star Platinum deals one last punch, yelling "ORA!" during it.

Forward tilt 6% Jotaro punches forward, in a manner similar to that of Ryu's held forward tilt. Unlike it, however, it does not deal extra shield damage.
Up tilt 5.5% Jotaro performs a quick uppercut. This can be used to combo into other attacks, or even itself.
Down tilt 6% Jotaro kicks with one leg outward on the ground. This has a chance of tripping opponents.
Dash attack 8% Jotaro stops in place, and then summons Star Platinum, who moves forward and punches.
Forward smash 17.8% Summons Star Platinum, who deals a punch in the direction Jotaro is facing.

Forward aerial 10% Jotaro punches out in front of himself.
Back aerial 11% Jotaro kicks behind himself.
Up aerial 9% Jotaro punches above himself.
Down aerial 9% Jotaro flips forward and swings both his fists around his body.

Edge attack 9% Climbs up, and then kicks the ground in front of him.
Neutral special Star Platinum Rush 3% (loop), 7% (finisher) Similar to his neutral infinite, with the exception of that Jotaro and Star Platinum can move during it, and that it deals more damage.
Side special Star Finger 9% Star Platinum comes out, and extends its fingers a distance of approximately as twice as Jotaro is tall, and then swings them, hitting opponents caught in it, while yelling "Star Finger!" (流星指刺!, Star Finger!)
Up special Star Platinum Throw 5% (contact with Jotaro) Star Platinum picks up Jotaro and throws him into the air, dealing damage to anyone that comes in contact with Jotaro during it. Can be used for recovery.
Down special Star Counter 1.3x countered attack Star Platinum takes a defensive pose in front of Jotaro, and anyone who attacks it during this has their attack countered by Star Platinum, who throws a counter-punch.
Final Smash Star Platinum: The World N/A Jotaro yells "Star Platinum: The World!" (星の白金:世界!, Star Platinum: The World!) before causing a stage-wide time stop, similar to Shadow's effect as an Assist Trophy. During this, no one except Jotaro can move, allowing him to rack up damage on opponents.

On-screen appearance[edit]

  • Jumps onto the stage, saying "Let's do this!" (いい加減にして!, Come on!)

Taunts[edit]

  • Up taunt: Jotaro grabs the brim of hat and says, "Give me a break." (やれやれだぜ。, What a pain.)
  • Side taunt: Jotaro crosses his arms and faces the screen.
  • Down taunt: Star Platinum comes out and strikes a pose.

Idle poses[edit]

  • Jotaro looks to his left, and then his right.
  • Jotaro's hat briefly covers his face before he pulls it back up.

Victory poses[edit]

  • Jotaro turns toward the camera and pumps his fist down, keeping it there.
  • Star Platinum punches forward three times, before posing with Jotaro.
  • Star Platinum does its signature attack rush, yelling "ORAORAORAORAORAORA... ORA!". Star Platinum and Jotaro then stand idly.

Role in World of Light[edit]

As Jotaro is downloadable content, he does have a proper role in World of Light; instead, he is available when 20 characters have been freed from Galeem's control. If a preexisting save file meets these requirements, Jotaro will immediately be available for use upon loading it.

Spirits[edit]

Jotaro's Fighter Spirit can only be obtained in the shop for 500 coins, as he does not have a Classic Mode route, and it only shows up when Jotaro has been downloaded. Unlocking Jotaro in World of Light allows the player to preview the spirit below in the Spirit List under the name "???". As a Fighter Spirit, it cannot be used in Spirit Battles and are purely aesthetic. Each Fighter Spirit has an alternate version that replaces them with their artwork in Ultimate.
