It appears as red lips on the ground: if the player goes near it, it will pop up nearly instantly and stick to the character. There is no possibility to dodge the attack, thus the only possible strategy is to stay away from it. Once stuck, Bucculus will emit cartoon-like "boing" noises and attack by kissing the player repeatedly, filling up its poison zone, absorbing health and causing immense damage.
It appears as red lips on the ground: if the player goes near it, it will pop up and attempt to stick to the character. Walking over it makes it likely to stick to the player, though this can be avoided by jumping over it or getting close enough to trigger it and preempt an attack, and most characters can run over it as well. When they jump out, they have a deceptively long-lasting hitbox, with decent reach above them, especially in later levels, so the player must jump clean over them. Once stuck, Bucculus will attack by kissing the player repeatedly to deal damage, filling up its "poison zone".

On the higher difficulties, its kiss can raise the player's damage from 0% to 999% in slightly more than eight seconds. It could also try to carry the player past the blast lines for a guaranteed KO, which isn't much dangerous on "still" stages, but becomes a real danger on stages with a moving blast line. In these stages the player is quite likely to suffer a guaranteed KO, being trapped between two obstacles or carried beyond a blast line, due to being unable to move as long as Bucculus is attached.

If a Bucculus misses its grab attack, it will bounce around and plant itself again after a few seconds. If a Bucculus with a filled poison zone is killed, it will most likely drop a Maxim Tomato, but occasionally drops Food otherwise. The player does not need to weaken an "empty" Bucculus to turn it into a trophy with a trophy stand, since its base health is always very low (even on Intense). However, when Bucculus absorbs energy from the player with its kiss, its life bar greatly increases, up to about five times its minimum.

Although the player is unable to move with a stuck Bucculus on him, he will have to press an attack button repeatedly to make Bucculus break away. Bucculus will then plant itself again in the ground. Notice that Bucculus doesn't break away by itself, and that this action will require more time as difficulty increases, from around three seconds on Easy to nearly six on Intense.
Although the player is unable to move with a stuck Bucculus on them, they can button mash to make the Bucculus break away. Bucculus will then run and try to plant itself again in the ground. A Bucculus will naturally break away after three hits. It will do a small amount of damage when it is popped off, regardless of if the player mashes or it does so naturally.

Notice that Bucculus' health will rise and peak at around five times its base value, after he it absorbed enough vitality from the player (it can be noticed due to a swelling of its body).

A Bucculus (ブチュルス, Bucculus) is a parasitic enemy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl's Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary which first appears at The Lake.

Appearance[edit]

A Bucculus looks like a plant with large and red lips and a purple poison zone on the back that resembles a strawberry. It hides deep in the ground, with only its lips showing.

In the Subspace Emissary[edit]

It appears as red lips on the ground: if the player goes near it, it will pop up and attempt to stick to the character. Walking over it makes it likely to stick to the player, though this can be avoided by jumping over it or getting close enough to trigger it and preempt an attack, and most characters can run over it as well. When they jump out, they have a deceptively long-lasting hitbox, with decent reach above them, especially in later levels, so the player must jump clean over them. Once stuck, Bucculus will attack by kissing the player repeatedly to deal damage, filling up its "poison zone".

If a Bucculus misses its grab attack, it will bounce around and plant itself again after a few seconds. If a Bucculus with a filled poison zone is killed, it will most likely drop a Maxim Tomato, but it could occasionally drop Food otherwise. The player does not need to weaken an "empty" Bucculus to turn it into a trophy with a trophy stand, since its base health is always very low (even on Intense).
