Umebura Japan Major 2019 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate supermajor hosted in Tokyo, Japan, from May 1st-2nd, 2019. This was the second Umebura Japan Major and is part of the Umebura tournament series.
Tournament summary
At 1,015 entrants, Umebura Japan Major 2019 was the first event outside the United States to surpass 1,000 entrants for singles and remained the largest Smash tournament in Japan until EVO Japan 2020. In addition, the tournament featured almost all of Japan's best players at that time, including all the players that would be ranked on the Spring 2019 PGRU or appear on the ranking's X-Factor survey aside from YB, as well as top North American players MkLeo and Cosmos. Due to the size of the event and the number of top-level talent, this tournament became the first non-North American supermajor in competitive Smash since the Brawl event at Sumabato X Final in 2014, as well as the first PGR/PGRU S-tier that took place outside of the United States.
After his breakout event at Umebura SP 3 where he placed 4th, #21 seed ProtoBanham was able to overshadow his run at the latter event with his run at this event. Initially defeating Umeki 2-1 and Tsu 2-0, he fell into losers after losing to Cosmos 0-2 but made an extensive losers run, defeating Choco 2-0, Ri-ma 3-0, Tea 3-1, Cosmos 3-2, and finally Raito 3-2 before losing to kameme 2-3 to place 2nd. This not only was one of the best loser's runs in early Ultimate, but remained ProtoBanham's best tournament performance until his victory at Kagaribi 4 two years later. In addition, kameme's victory was not only the first major win of his career, but also the first major win for Mega Man in Smash history.
Conversely, this event is known for being MkLeo's first major event with Joker. However, his first run with Joker ended poorly, as MkLeo ultimately lost to Peach players TKM and Umeki 0-2 for 33rd, his worst placement at an Ultimate event and his third worst tournament placement of his career, after his 65th place finishes at the Smash 4 events  2GGC: Civil War and EVO 2017. In addition, this event marked KEN's worst placement at a tournament, as he finished 65th losing to Ri-ma 1-2 and Shogun 0-2.
Outside of these achievements, Tsu's 5th-place finish stood as the only time a Lucario player placed top 8 at an Ultimate major until Gachipi tied the placement at Seibugeki 17 five years later. In addition, this event was the first of three events that saw Raito place 3rd, marking the highest placement from a Duck Hunt player at a major.

Umebura Japan Major 2019 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate supermajor hosted in Tokyo, Japan, from May 1st-2nd, 2019. This was the second Umebura Japan Major and is part of the Umebura tournament series.

Tournament summaryEdit
