#Still a major oppose Ultimately, I still see no reason to fix what isn't broken. There's a lot of factors here, but the main one is that we barely ever get anyone on the IRC to begin with. I mean, if we did move to Discord, there is a chance we'd get more people, but one thing I feel is necessary to point out is that Serpent King at one point tried to put together a SmashWiki Discord and that fell through. What it boils down to, quoting something Toomai said one time, all the arguments boil down to are "Discord is new and improved" while "the IRC is well-established and popular". New doesn't always mean better, and, as someone who uses Discord, I still don't think Discord's good enough for a new SW IRC yet. It's getting close to what I'd prefer it to be, but it may still take another year. Maybe more, maybe less. ::What I'm meaning is that we did have a few people using it, and while it was used for a while, it's ultimately died and has been dead for a couple months now. Those who used it just came right back to the current IRC. *Why do the IRC and Discord have to be mutually exclusive? We can keep both around for now, and they can serve different purposes. IRC can be a casual, general chat that's easy to log and access (and we could even link it to a general chat on Discord through an IRC bridge bot if need be), and Discord can be for more specialized discussions. Just my two cents. If at some point we decide to make a full move, I wouldn't mind that, but this whole dichotomy of "should we have one over the other immediately" just kind of irks me. -- Yellow of the Grove 03:43, 8 November 2016 (EST) |
