The rest stops in Kirby Super Star's {{s|wikirby|Arena}} seem a more likely origin: they are actual rest areas between battles, contain a limited amount of healing items which don't regenerate (plus copy abilities) and show a box with the upcoming opponent noting how many battles are left.
