SEAT (short for South Eastern Australia Tournament) was the first in a series of Super Smash Bros. Melee tournaments, post @M, that attempted to solidify the Melbourne Smash Community, at a time the community was highly embraced. The first installment of the SEAT series was held on the 22nd of September, 2005 and broke the previous attendance record set by @M. It was held at the Kingston Arts Centre in Moorabbin, south of Melbourne, Australia. Kupo easily won the tournament, unchallenged by runner up CATS. SEAT2 was held at the same location on December 10, 2005. The SEAT tournaments featured players from Western Australia, Tasmania, New South Wales, and South Australia, as well as Melbourne.

Interesting facts

  • A banner with a picture of Kupo was pinned on the wall with the slogan "To violence against n00bs, Australia says no." This was a parody of the advertising campaign that aired at the time about violence against women.
  • A highlight of the SEAT series included smasher Yvette defeating well known players with Sheik's chain. Anfology was the first victim.
  • SEAT was the first Australian tournament to make a genuine effort to deviate from traditional double elimination tournaments. It incorporated a unique manual randomization of several qualifying rounds, with the highest scorers advancing to a final.
