As a result, Dr. Cain decided to duplicate X to mass produce Reploids to become a standard living race on Earth alongside with humans. Due to their ability of complete free will, Reploids also have the potential of rebelling against society, such label to give to these Reploids were called "Mavericks". X's role as a Maverick Hunter entails protecting the world from Mavericks such as Sigma and defeating them.
