This article is about the object. For the game subtitled "Majora's Mask", see The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

Majora's Mask (ムジュラの仮面, Mujura's Mask) is an object from the game The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

Origin

Masks play a prominent role in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. One of them serves as the main antagonist of the game.

Prior to the events of Majora's Mask, a wandering Skull Kid had ambushed a man in the forest. He stole Majora's Mask and wore it, unaware of the fact that a great evil was housed inside it, and ultimately being a victim to the mask's influence. Using his new-found power, he performed all kinds of mischief like turning Link into a Deku, forcing him to stop all kinds of havoc he caused in an alternate world.

The man attacked in the forest is later revealed to be the Mask Salesman from Ocarina of Time. Apparently, he knew of Majora's Mask and the tribe that made use of its powerful sorcery to bewitch people (which questions whether or not he has any relation to the tribe), as demonstrated by the Skull Kid's mischief. Because of the mask's great power, and in fear of all the catastrophes committed by said mask, it (along with the tribe) became removed from history. The Mask Salesman also could feel what he referred to as the "doom of a dark omen." Fearing such a catastrophe would happen again, he begs Link to get the mask back from the Skull Kid, given a time limit of 72 hours (three days) before Termina falls victim to the Skull Kid's malice.

It was revealed at some point in the game that the Skull Kid had a close friendship with Termina's guardians. They returned to the spirit world at the end of the previous Carnival of Time; little did they realize that the Skull Kid had watched them leave, thinking that they did not want to be friends anymore. His emotions, combined with the dark ambitions of the spirit in Majora's Mask, had triggered hatred to everyone on the planet. He sealed away the four giants using his power, with the seals taking the form of four bosses in the four temples of Termina.

After a series of trials, Link eventually freed the giants from their imprisonment. From the giants, he learned of a melody of trust, and on the final day he played that melody; this prevented the destruction of Termina, as well as freeing Skull Kid from the mask. The mask later revealed itself, stating that the Skull Kid was merely a puppet in his plan. He entered and possessed the moon he created, and Link followed after the mask.

From there he found a child wearing Majora's Mask. He asked to play Tag, to which Link reluctantly agrees. If the player has given away all their non-transformation masks away to the four lunar children (who disappear after they finish playing Hide-and-Seek with Link), the only child will give Link a powerful, yet sinister mask. The player can only wear this mask in boss rooms.

Majora serves as the final boss of the game. He is fought in three phases, which transform into a humanoid figure after each fight; these forms are Mask, Incarnation and Wrath. Despite using powerful attacks (some of which are of a bizarre and childish manner), Majora is of no match to Link's power and is ultimately defeated. He disappears, along with the moon that he created. Link wakes up in south Termina Field, and see an ashamed Skull Kid. The Mask Salesman picks up the mask, seeing that the spirit has been destroyed for good, and bids Link farewell.

Majora's Mask appears as a stage that available only during Event 47: Trophy Tussle 3, for which the player receives the trophy. It has two horns on top (the human player starts on the left horn), and together, they create an enclosed area between them. Both sides of the stage are curved. They then lead down to some horizontal horns, which can be used as ledges.

A lonely Skull Kid put on Majora's Mask and unknowingly allowed a great evil to invade the land of Termina. The mask manifested its evil power into the fearsome looking moon, and the Skull Kid became merely a puppet under its malevolent power. In the ultimate battle with Link, Majora's Mask fought in three separate forms.

Ntsc Created for the most hexing rituals, this mask is infused with such dark magic that it becomes an evil creature in its own right. In a separate dimension called Termina, it tries to cause the end of the world by making the moon fall from the sky. And if you think the mask looks creepy, wait until you see its other forms!
