Ness returns as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4, as confirmed by a leaker's Twitch stream. His profile art matches a previous leak.

His appearance is slightly different from his other Smash Bros. appearances, his facing being thinner and the colors of all of his clothing items being more brightly colored, like in his original game. The brighter colors also go with the rest of the characters' new looks, being overall brighter.

Along with Fox, he seems to have a new voice.

Confirmed changes from Brawl

• PK Thunder travels slightly faster, and has a larger hitbox.
• Forward tilt has been sped up.
• PSI Magnet has less ending lag.
• PK Fire travels much farther.
• Forward smash is slightly slower.
• Dash attack has more intense lighting effects.
