Sonic (ソニック) will be a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4. He was announced during the October 1st 2013 Nintendo Direct, in celebration of Sonic Lost World being released in the same month. The official website also refers to Sonic by the full name Sonic the Hedgehog.
