:That's only because in Melee and Brawl there's too many characters to have a fixed layout. And that's the only difference between 1p game and Classic Mode. They both pit the player against rounds of opponents. In both, the rounds can vary between 1 on one fight, a fight against 2 people with an ally on your side, a fight against a giant character with 2 allies, many light characters fought at once, or a metal opponent. The both have mini games after every 4 or so fights (In fact, Melee shares 2 of the three mini games with SSB). The both involve fights against the Polygon/wire frame team (except for brawl, though). Finally, they both include fights against Master Hand at the end. I'd say that's enough similarities for them to share an article.
