Kamek (カメック, Kamek) is an antagonist from the Yoshi and Mario series.
Origin[edit]
Kamek made his debut in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island as the main antagonist and has become a recurring antagonist in the Yoshi and Mario series. He is a Magikoopa, a high-ranking Koopa, and is a caretaker to Baby Bowser and later his personal advisor.
Kamek is known for assisting the bosses of the Yoshi and in the New Super Mario Bros. series starting with New Super Mario Bros. Wii by using his magic. In Yoshi's Island, Kamek uses his magic to make the bosses gigantic (or in the case of the Prince Froggy boss, shrinking Yoshi and Baby Mario). In the New Super Mario Bros. series, Kamek uses his magic to alter the elements of the Koopalings' boss stages and make Bowser gigantic.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]
Kamek appears as two stickers.

In Super Smash Bros. 4[edit]
As a stage element[edit]
Kamek appears as a stage element on the Mushroom Kingdom U stage. When he appears, he casts a spell which switches the stage between its possible layouts. He doesn't interact directly with the fighters.
In Smash Tour[edit]
Kamek appears as a random event in Smash Tour. He appears at the beginning of a turn and uses his magic to change the position of the checkpoints.
Trophy[edit]
Kamek's trophy is part of the Yoshi's Island Trophy Box.
- Kamek
- This magical menace is one of Bowser's henchmen and shows his face in plenty of titles, even outside of the Mario series. In the Mushroom Kingdom U stage, he swoops onto the screen every so often to transform the stage with his magic. Now and then, though, he'll tease you by not casting any magic at all. He's a sly one, that Kamek.
- Kamek is a magic-wielding, robed figure usually seen riding on a broomstick in the Mario series. He teleports around the stage, looking for fighters. When he finds one, he'll cast spells at them. If he hits you with one, your stats will drop. That's no good, since you'll need some power to deal with Kamek's high stamina!

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
As a stage element[edit]
Kamek reprises his role in the Mushroom Kingdom U stage.
Spirit[edit]
Kamek also appears as an Advanced-class primary spirit.
In Adventure Mode: World of Light, Kamek is presumably one of the countless spirits captured by Galeem during his takeover of the universe. Kamek's spirit is located in the Molten Fortress sub-dungeon of The Light Realm.
Kamek's Spirit Battle uses an army of Inkling puppet fighters and is and is fought on the Mushroom Kingdom U stage's Slide Tower layout. Each of the puppet fighters start off with a Star Rod, referencing Kamek's magic scepter. During the battle, an army of Inklings appear after the first Inkling is defeated, referencing Kamek's ability to teleport and duplicate himself.

Trivia[edit]
- In a Nintendo Japan questionnaire, Kamek was included as a popularly requested character for Super Smash Bros. Melee.[1]
- Kamek's trophy in Smash 3DS depicts him as a generic Magikoopa, while his Smash Wii U trophy lists Super Mario World as one of his appearances. While Magikoopas in general debuted in Super Mario World, Kamek himself debuted in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
- This may be because Magikoopas are called "Kameks" in Japanese, with no clear distinction between the character and the species.
- Kamek's trophy in the Wii U version erroneously states that he might trick the player by not casting any magic at all when he appears in Mushroom Kingdom U. This is false; Kamek will always cause a stage transition with every appearance.
- Despite being a Mario trophy in both versions of Super Smash Bros. 4, the Kamek trophy is part of the Yoshi's Island Trophy Box in the Wii U version, which makes sense considering he is Yoshi's arch nemesis.
- Kamek's spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is listed under the Mario series, despite the fact that he made his debut in the Yoshi series, as well as being a primary antagonist of these games, likely because he appears in Super Smash Bros. on a Mario series stage.
