Hitmonlee (サワムラー, Sawamurā, Sawamular in Japanese language versions) is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise. It is a Fighting-type.
Hitmonlee (サワムラー, Sawamular) is a creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Origin
Hitmonlee is a bulbapedia-type Pokémon introduced in bulbapedia, and is categorized within the Pokédex at #106 as the "Kicking Pokémon". Starting with bulbapedia, Hitmonlee evolves from Tyrogue at level 20 if its attack is greater than its defense. It is a male-only species known for its long, spring-esque legs that allows it to kick rapidly from a distance. In the original games, it was along with Hitmonchan, one of the possible prizes for defeating the bulbapedia in Saffron City's bulbapedia.

bulbapedia is a Fighting-type move with 100 (70 in Generation I) base power and 95% accuracy. If it misses, the user takes bulbapedia damage equal to half of its maximum HP (1 HP in Generation I). Hitmonlee can learn it in every game, and before bulbapedia it was the only Pokémon to be able to do so.

As a Poké Ball Pokémon
Hitmonlee appears as a Pokémon that comes out of a Pokéball in Super Smash Bros.. Hitmonlee uses Hi Jump Kick as its attack. Hitmonlee will remain motionless for a full second, then it will extend its leg and jump in the air at a randomly decided opponent target to inflict heavy damage and knockback if it connects. Its attack can't harm the summoner.

Hitmonlee can be summoned by a Poké Ball. It attacks with Jump Kick: upon appearing Hitmonlee remains motionless for several frames, then it extends its leg and jumps in the air in a long arc towards a random opponent. If it connects it inflicts heavy damage and knockback. Hitmonlee's attack cannot harm the summoner.

Its voice clips in the Japanese and English versions are from the Pokémon episode The Punchy Pokémon. They were only from the episode's Japanese version; the scene they were from was dubbed over in the episode's English dub.

Hitmonlee makes a brief cameo appearance in the opening movie, during the sequence that shows dozens of Pokémon. However, it does not return as a Poké Ball summon; it has seemingly replaced by Scizor, since they have similar attack fashions and effects.

Trophy
Hitmonlee's trophy is exclusive to for3ds. Interestingly, its description actually acknowledges it being a Poké Ball summon in the original Super Smash Bros.

|desc-ntsc=Sometimes referred to as the Kick Master, this flexible Fighting-type Pokémon can extend each leg to nearly twice its natural length. It can often be seen rubbing its legs down after a battle. In the original Super Smash Bros., it would shout to get itself pumped up and then launch fighters directly upward with a powerful kick.

Hitmonlee's cry when coming out of a Poké Ball is Psyduck's cry instead of his own. No information has been given to why this occurs.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Hitmonlee still does not return as a Poké Ball Pokémon, but does appear as a spirit.
