Duel Zone (デュエルゾーン, Duel Zone), also known as Battlefield or the Fighting Polygon Stage, fact is a stage in Super Smash Bros., home to the Fighting Polygon Team in the 1P Game.

Battlefield (also known as the Fighting Polygon stage) is a stage in Super Smash Bros. home to the Fighting Polygons in 1-Player mode. Battlefield is a simple three-platform stage with a long solid landmass below. Legally playable remakes of Battlefield have appeared in sequels to this game. Super Smash Bros. Melee (see Special Stages: Battlefield) and Super Smash Bros. Brawl (see Battlefield (SSBB)). It also resembles Dream Land from Super Smash Bros. It is overall smaller than the Melee version but doesn't have the gimpy ledges. It also has a higher ceiling than its Melee counterpart. Overall though, the stage is mid-sized and would probably be used in both singles and doubles if the stage were available for versus play. The only way to use the stage for a multiplayer match is through hacking.
The name "Battlefield" is retroactively applied to this stage, as redesigns of this stage that have appeared in later games in the series share that name, and no name in other languages was widely-known before the Battlefield name was popularized. However, this stage's official name in Japanese, デュエルゾーン, Duel Zone, doesn't match the name for Battlefield in the Japanese versions of Melee and later games, all of which use the name 戦場, Battlefield. In addition, the music for this stage appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate under the title "Duel Zone", while event tournaments Hailing from the '90s and The Year Is 200X each feature one of Battlefield and Final Destination but not the other (despite both debuting in the 1999 release Super Smash Bros. before being selectable stages in the 2001 release Super Smash Bros. Melee), suggesting its English name as also dissimilar from its successors.

Like its successors, it features a large main platform with three overhanging soft platforms. It is overall smaller than the Melee and Brawl versions, and also lacks Melees infamous ledges on its main platform. It also has a higher ceiling than its Melee counterpart. The only way to use the stage for a multiplayer match is through hacking.

Tournament legality
The stage is generally banned in competitive play: besides the fact that it needs a hacking device to be accessed, there is also a glitch where characters are automatically KO'd if they Smash DI into the stage. However, some tournaments that use specialized rulesets (such as GENESIS 5 and GENESIS 6) allow the stage as a legal counterpick stage for doubles, provided that the glitch has been fixed.

Trivia
*This is the only Battlefield that is not a playable stage in VS Mode without hacking.
