Japanese[edit]
Trivia[edit]
- Like in Smash 4, this video uses the music in the "How to Play" video in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
- In the base version of Ultimate, the primary revival platform on Final Destination and Ω form stages was to the left of the centre of the stage, rather than in the middle. This behaviour is present in this video.
- Oddly, the clips in the video showing Mario walking, running and jumping on an empty stage take place on the 8-player Ω form of Battlefield, despite the regular Ω form having more than enough room to demonstrate these movement options, especially without any other fighters present.
- Similar to the How to Play videos in Brawl and Smash 4, specific buttons are not mentioned, with the video naming buttons as "attack", "special", "shield", etc., due to the ability to customize controls. Like in Brawl, the button colors match the default configuration of the GameCube Controller, only that shield is purple instead of gray.
- In addition to camera modifications, several other modifications are made to the gameplay in the video, in addition to other inconsistencies with the final game, including:
- Bowser's idle animation has him close his mouth and cover his teeth.
- Interestingly, he still reverts to this animation while holding a small item.
- Mario's up smash has lower base knockback and higher knockback scaling, to produce a greater contrast in launch distances.
- Mario's full health shield is slightly bigger, and is more resistant to damage from Bowser's Fire Breath.
- Bowser's idle animation has him close his mouth and cover his teeth.
- This is the third How to Play video that shows the offscreen areas where fighters can be launched towards any blast line.
- This is the only How to Play video that runs at the game's native frame rate and resolution (excluding Smash 64's How to Play video, which is rendered in real time).
- This is the first How to Play video since Smash 64 to not use the DF Gothic Japanese font (which is also the font used for large text in Smash 4).
- This is also the first How to Play video since Smash 64 to have Mario face an unlockable character.
- Daisy is the only Echo Fighter (and clone characters in general) to appear in the video. This likely due to her status as the newcomer, as all Final Smashes (except Mario's Mario Finale) shown in the video are either used by a newcomer or replaced a veteran's previous Final Smash.
- Masahiro Sakurai stated in a YouTube video that he wanted to include a more interactive tutorial into the game, but was unable to and had to settle for a non-interactive video.[1]
