The Main Theme song in particular was revealed along with the game itself at the game's first trailer in E3 2006 before being posted at the site much later. This thundering orchestra with vocals sung in Latin was composed by famed Final Fantasy series composer Nobuo Uematsu, and its lyrics were supervised by Sakurai himself. The lyrics are seen in the closing video of the Subspace Emissary.

The official English translation is not literal; the Latin verb tenses and strict verb meanings were localized to be more easily parsed in English. The following is a more direct translation of the original Latin lyrics:

Alone he rushed into his enemies
and saved his country
and once were rivals.
And by contesting and by fighting fiercely.
That one
That one is near to me

Meaning
They are allies to me
Those who were once strong men
and rivals
The song describes how different characters come from different universes, how those heroes (or villains) defeated many enemies in combat to earn a spot in Brawl as a playable character. The "legends" of that person are the trials and tribulations that those characters had to go through (For example, Mario having to save the Mushroom Kingdom countless times from King Bowser). The fifth and sixth stanzas refer to The Subspace Emissary on how characters fight together, or more generally to any Brawl in which the teams are ever-changing, pitting characters against each other in likely or unlikely arrangements.
And by contesting and fighting fiercely
our splendor grows.

The Super Smash Bros. Brawl Main Theme is, as the name implies, the main theme of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, playing in the opening movie and The Great Invasion cutscene. It was first heard alongside the reveal of Brawl itself in the game's first trailer at E3 2006, before being posted on the Smash Bros. DOJO!! much later. The song was composed by Final Fantasy series composer Nobuo Uematsu, and its lyrics were supervised by Super Smash Bros. series director Masahiro Sakurai. The translated lyrics are seen in the closing video of the Subspace Emissary, just before the credits. The melody is used in many of Brawl's original songs, albeit usually without the lyrics.

While the original song does not return in Super Smash Bros. 4, it returns as selectable menu music in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (after clearing World of Light). Its various remixes from Brawl return as selectable music in for Wii U and Ultimate for the main menu, Battlefield, and Final Destination. The song is also incorporated into the credits medley in both versions of SSB4.

Lyrics[edit]

Audi famam illius.
Solus in hostes ruit
et patriam servavit.

Audi famam illius.
Cucurrit quaeque tetigit destruens.

Audi famam illius.
Audi famam illius.

Spes omnibus, mihi quoque.
Terror omnibus, mihi quoque.

Socii sunt mihi,
qui olim viri fortes

Saeve certando pugnandoque

Translated Lyrics[edit]

The end credits of The Subspace Emissary feature localized translations of the lyrics, as follows:

English[edit]

I've heard legends of that person
How he plunged into enemy territory
How he saved his homeland

I've heard legends of that person
How he traveled the breadth of the land, reducing all he touched to rubble

I've heard legends of that person
I've heard legends of that person

Revered by many--I too, revere him
Feared by many--I too, fear him

Now, that person
Stands at my side
Now that person stands at my side

Now my friends are with me
Some of them were once heroes
Some, my mortal enemies

And as we face each other in battle, locked in combat
We shine ever brighter

Direct Translation[edit]

The official English translation is not literal; the Latin verb tenses and strict verb meanings were localized to be more easily parsed in English. The following is a more direct translation of the original Latin lyrics:

Hear the fame of that one
Alone he rushed into his enemies
and saved his country

Hear the fame of that one
He ran, destroying everything he touched

Hear the fame of that one
Hear the fame of that one

Hope to everyone, also to me
Fear to everyone, also to me

That one
is near to me
That one is near to me

They are allies to me
Those who were once strong men
and rivals

And by contesting and fighting fiercely
our splendor grows.

Trivia[edit]
