Considering the conflicting information regarding ''The Legend of Zelda'' fighters, the presence of a {{s|wikirby|Galacta Knight}}-inspired costume for [[Meta Knight]] in ''Ultimate'', and the three confirmed newcomers already being previously popular guesses, this leak was thought to be false.

While the "new mastermind" [[Galeem]], and the language option (albeit also applying to in-game texts, not just character voices), were confirmed, the final newcomers for the base game were revealed to be {{SSBU|Ken}} and {{SSBU|Incineroar}}, and the 5 post-launch DLC characters were stated to be completely new characters, instead of Echo Fighters. Additionally, several of the rumored playable characters were revealed as Assist Trophies instead, namely [[Isaac]], [[Sablé Prince]], [[Skull Kid]], and [[Shadow]]. Furthermore, the conception of the [[Adventure Mode: World of Light|World of Light]] is revealed to be fundamentally different from previous Adventure Modes upon the game's release.
