The goal of a wiki is to be informative and not to allow self promotion or free advertisement.  This policy outlines what is allowed, not allowed, and required when a user creates a page for a guild.
Posting a page including info about a smasher in an [[wiktionary:objective|objective]] manner is fine, but we have all too many [[wikipedia:Wikisquatting|wikisquatters]] starting guild pages on a site meant to be mostly informative.  This could even be classified as [[wikipedia:Bandwidth theft|stealing our bandwidth]] which is illegal (at least in the U.S.)!  Please, if you want a wiki for your smasher, ask around; I am sure some generous user will help you get one set up.

Posting a page including info about a guild in an [[WoWWiki:Objectivity|objective]] manner is fine, but we have all too many [[WoWWiki:Wikisquatting|wikisquatters]] starting guild pages on a site meant to be mostly informative.  This could even be classified as [[WoWWiki:Bandwidth theft|stealing our bandwidth]] which is illegal (at least in the U.S.)!  Please, if you want a wiki for your guild, ask around; I am sure some generous user will help you get one set up.
When writing a guild article, please consider the [[Help:Guild articles|boilerplate]] as a good starting point.

== Required ==
== Required ==
All guild pages will be required to follow these specifications.
All Smasher articles will be required to follow these specifications:

=== Naming ===
;Naming
The guild pages should be in the <code>Guild</code> namespace, contain the complete name of the guild, and be followed by the guild's server and EU or US in parentheses.
:Smasher pages should be in the <code>Smasher</code> namespace.
:'''Example:''' <code><nowiki>[[Guild:The Mighty Guild (Arthas US)]]</nowiki></code>.
::'''Example:''' <code><nowiki>[[Smasher:Brakedown]]</nowiki></code>.
:''Note there is no space between Guild: and the guild name. However, there is a space between the guild name and the following parenthetical.''
::''Note there is no space between Smasher: and the smasher name.
* Additional guild articles should be created as a sub article of the guilds main article.
:A select few smashers will be allowed in the main namespace, as evidenced by their notability.
*:'''Examples:'''
*::<code><nowiki>[[Guild:The Mighty Guild (Arthas US)/Article1]]</nowiki></code>.
*::<code><nowiki>[[Guild:The Mighty Guild (Arthas US)/Article2]]</nowiki></code>.

=== Contents ===
;Contents
All guild pages must contain:
:All smasher pages must contain:
:*Where the smasher lives. This may be as vague as "North America" or as specific as "Hillsburrito, Iowa".
:*The characters the smasher [[main character|mains]] in any or all of the three Super Smash Bros. games.

* The {{t|Guild}} tag at the top of the page. This will place the article in [[:Category:Guilds]].
;Categorization
* The server the guild exists on.
:The smasher page should also be properly categorized. This means they should probably be located in:
* The faction the guild plays.
:* <code><nowiki>[[Category:<country> smashers]]</nowiki></code>
* '''At least three (3) sentences in English containing ''useful'' information about the guild.''' E.g. purpose of guild, contact information, recruiting state, rules, style of play, etc. After these sentences, the main article may be in another language if the intended audience is non-English.

=== Categorization ===
:There are also various categories more specific to each country. If you can provide a more specific category, such as [[:Category:Oregon smashers]], this is preferred, though not required.
The guild page should also be properly categorized:

* <code><nowiki>[[Category:Guilds]]</nowiki></code> - ''Automatically added by the {{t|Guild}} tag.''
;Redirects
* <code><nowiki>[[Category:PvE Guilds]]</nowiki></code>, <code><nowiki>[[Category:PvP Guilds]]</nowiki></code>, <code><nowiki>[[Category:RP Guilds]]</nowiki></code> – Choose the one which most closely matches your play-style.
:The smasher page will be allowed a maximum of three redirects out of the main namespace and into the Smasher namespace. No more than that will be allowed, and you will be requested to tag the ones you do not want for deletion. Otherwise, they will be chosen for you by an administrator.
* <code><nowiki>[[Category:Alliance Guilds]]</nowiki></code> or <code><nowiki>[[Category:Horde Guilds]]</nowiki></code>
:These redirects are not allowed to interfere with articles on in-game information.
* <code><nowiki>[[Category:European Guilds]]</nowiki></code> - if your guild is on a European server.
* <code><nowiki>[[Category:US Guilds]]</nowiki></code> - if your guild is on a US server.
* Many servers also have subcategories for their guilds, see [[:Category:Guilds]].

The information here is allowed and encouraged in order to create an informative smasher page:

* A (short) list of players to contact for more information
* List of which characters you play with, and your skill level with them, ''relative'' to each other. This means you cannot claim to be a professional, with ''any'' character. Should your page be changed to indicate that you are a professional by the community, then this is allowed.
* A link to your guild website and/or forums
* A link to your user profile on Smash World Forums, or here, on SmashWiki.
* A list of the progress your guild has made
* A list of tournaments you have entered, and your final placements at each. These should be relatively well known, but this point allows for some slack to be given.
* A list of periodic events that might be of interest to people outside the guild, e.g. prospective new members:
* Age, birth date, or any other public information in such a manner
** Guild meeting schedules, instance run schedules, PvP raid schedule
* Current crews or teams you are a member of, as well as former crews or teams you have been a member of.
** Note however that the intention is ''not'' to allow guilds to replace their own guild sites with WoWWiki pages. The emphasis is still on ''objectivity'' and ''usefulness to people outside your guild''.
* Favorite character, if it is not your main.
* A summary of the purpose of your guild
* A list of perceived "rivals".
* Whether you are recruiting or not, and who you are recruiting
* A brief summary of guild guidelines
* Short stories or history of your guild

This is not necessarily a complete list. We do not mind you publishing other information that is useful or interesting to others; but it illustrates the gist of it: pages in WoWWiki are there for the visitors!

* Biased information - The content on a Wiki is meant to be informative, this includes guild pages. Guild pages, like all other, should be written from a neutral point of view and must follow the [[WoWWiki:NPOV|Neutral Point of View Policy]].
* Biased information - The content on a Wiki is meant to be informative, and this includes smasher pages. Smasher pages, like all other, should be written from a neutral point of view. This means you should not express things which are not easily verifiable, such as your wishes/wants/desires regarding the game of Smash.
* A complete list of guild members
* Items already discussed in [[#Allowed]].
* Forums, message boards, or other forms of inter-guild communications
* In general terms: don't put any material on the page that ''requires'' it to be updated frequently, or is only meant for members of the guild.

== Disbanded guilds ==
== Retired smashers ==
Articles about disbanded or non existant guilds can and will be nominated for speedy deletion. If your guild has disbanded but you want to archive the article, please move it to the main author's ''User:'' namespace and remove {{t|Guild}} and any guild-specific category.
Articles about retired smashers will be removed from all categories except for[:Category:Retired smashers]], and will be kept for archival purposes.

Articles about non existent smashers can and will be nominated for [[SmashWiki:Deletion policy|speedy deletion]].

== Smasher stubs ==
Stubs for smashers can be created in preparation of expanding the article with more information. If you create a stub, use the {{template|smasher-stub}} tag at the top of your article.  Smasher pages marked as stubs which have not been edited for 30 days will be nominated for speedy deletion and subsequently deleted.  '''Your smasher page is a stub if it does not contain the [[#Required|required information]].'''

== Guild stubs ==
== Enforcement ==
Stubs for guilds can be created in preparation of expanding the article with more information. If you create a stub, use the {{t|Stub/Guild}} tag at the top of your article.  Guild pages marked as stubs which have not been edited for 30 days will be deleted.  '''Your guild page is a stub if it does not contain the [[#Required|required information]].'''
* A page not containing the [[#Required|required information]] should be marked <code>{{t|smasher-stub}}</code>.
* A smasher page stub should be marked <code>{{t|D}}</code> after 30 days if it has not been fixed.
* A page containing [[#Not allowed|disallowed content]] can be edited to comply, '''or''' you can mark it with <nowiki><code>{{t|smasher-violation}}</code></nowiki>, which places it in <nowiki>[[:Category:Articles with possible policy violations]]</nowiki> for someone else to fix.
* Users that insist on having information on their smasher page that is not allowed, and revert improvements others make, will be considered vandals, and possibly blocked from editing this wiki.

== Enforcing the policy ==
'''''Note:''' A deleted smasher page can be restored at an admin's discretion. However, this will not give you an extra 30 days to comply with policy. You will have a maximum of seven days from the un-deletion to change your page to comply with this policy.''
* A page not containing the [[#Required|required information]] should be marked <code>{{t|Stub/Guild}}</code>.
* A guild page stub should be marked <code>{{t|Speedydelete}}</code> after 30 days if it has not been fixed.
* A page containing [[#Not Allowed|disallowed content]] can be edited to comply, '''or''' you can mark it with <code>{{t|Violation/Guild}}</code>, which places it in [[:Category:Pages with possible policy violations]] for someone else to fix.
* Users that insist on having information on their guild page that is not allowed, and revert improvements others make, will be considered [[WoWWiki:Vandalism|Vandals]].

'''''Note:''' A deleted guild page can be restored at an admin's discretion. However, this will not give you an extra 30 days to comply with policy.''
== Implementation ==
Should this policy be implemented, all pages are to be moved to the smasher namespace within the time of one week. When all the articles have been moved, the thirty day countdown will begin for all smasher articles still tagged with {{t|smasher-stub}}. Should these pages be in other ways in violation of this policy, <nowiki>{{t|smasher-violation}}</nowiki> will be added, or the articles will be edited to be in line with this policy.

Please remember that WoWWiki is a place where users go to obtain information about World of Warcraft, not get spammed with useless information.  Guilds are certainly a large part of World of Warcraft and can be represented here, but they must follow the proper criteria and not participate in spewing useless biased information or [[Wikisquatting]].  Your target audience is not yourself or your guildmates, it is people interested in WoW. Your guild page should reflect this!
