Yuri is the central protagonist of ''Maiden of Black Water'', the fifth main entry in the ''Fatal Frame'' franchise. She's a 19-year-old teenager who survived a car accident that killed her whole family; because of the accident, she developed a "Sixth Sense." This ability allows her to see ghosts. Throughout the game, she helps the other protagonists in solving strange cases around Mt. Hikami, a notoriously haunted location in the outskirts of Japan. Yuri is led to Mt. Hikami by her sixth sense and travels around the area and back, taking photographs of spirits with her Camera Obscura, a specialized camera that can take photographs and exorcise ghosts.

While the Camera Obscura's crosshair is based on the one that appears on the Wii U's GamePad or on the screen (depending on the set control scheme) and the ghostly wails are loosely based on the sound effects ghosts play when damaged in ''Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water'', the grainy effects and inverted colors seem to only be referencing her home series's status as a camera-oriented horror game.
