| *Gray Fox's nickname as "Deepthroat" in his trophy description is in reference to an event in American history known as "the Watergate scandal". During the investigation of the Democratic National Comittee break-in at the Watergate Hotel in Washington DC, Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein received information from an anonymous contributor to who was involved in the break-in. The contributor never named himself, but was given the pseudonym of "Deep Throat" by Woodward and Bernstein in their book ''All the President's Men'' alluding to the deep background status of his information. Deep Throat's true identity was later revealed in 2005 by Woodward and Bernstein to be that of former FBI director Mark Felt. At the time of ''Metal Gear Solid'''s release, the identity of Deep Throat had yet to be revealed, with Snake commenting that Gray Fox might be the same Deep Throat as in the scandal, carrying over into the ''Twin Snakes'' remake.
