Classic Regular match is an eight-stage, single-player slugfest. The goal is simple: Defeat each stage's opponent(s) to advance to the next stage. This mode has appeared in every Super Smash Bros. game to date. At the end of each stage, you recieve a score based on the amount of damage you inflicted, and the amount of time remaining. Bonuses and penalties are added to and subtracted from your score depending upon your performance.

You can also Coins in Super Smash Bros. Melee by inflicting damage and KOs. Completing Classic mode with a given character gives you that character's Classic Trophy to add to your Trophy Gallery.
