Kirby (カービィ, Kirby) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He was confirmed on June 12th, 2018. Makiko Ōmoto once again reprises her role as the voice of Kirby, with most clips re-used from Super Smash Bros. 4.

Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4

Aesthetics

• As with all veterans returning from SSB4, Kirby's model features a more subdued color scheme. His model and textures otherwise appear unchanged.
• Stone has been given some new items to transform into, some of them outside of the Kirby series, such as a treasure chest found in Breath of the Wild's shrines.
• Like many other characters, Kirby is more expressive, both with his face and his movement.
• Some of Kirby's animations, particularly his dash and initial jump, have been changed to closer resemble Kirby's Return to Dream Land.
• When Kirby gains a new Copy Ability, he briefly poses like he does in his home series. This animation can be canceled.
• Up Taunt has been changed, removing the Kirby Dance to simply being the end pose.
• Victory Pose has been modified. New dances based off of Kirby’s Return to Dream Land were added, and Kirby now splits into three separate Kirbys when not in team battles, referencing his home series.
• Kirby's cap for Zelda has been changed from her wimple she wore in Ocarina of Time to a hairstyle matching her new A Link Between Worlds-inspired look.

Standard attacks

• Kirby's dash attack has reverted to its Melee iteration, where Kirby does a tackle identical to the "Burning" copy ability. It no longer goes off of ledges and is stronger than his previous dash attack.
• Forward smash sends Kirby further, improving its range.
  • Forward smash has slightly higher ending lag.
• Down smash has increased range and is more like its Brawl version, as the ends of the feet send opponents at a horizontal angle.
• Kirby's neutral attack now has the ability to jab lock but with the first hit specifically.

Special moves

• Inhale has an updated visual effect.
• Kirby can now Inhale and spit out projectiles like a fully charged Charge Shot from Samus. In addition, he can now heal him when inhaling certain projectiles..
• Stone has a faster startup and now deals 22.7%.
• Hammer KOs even earlier when fully charged.

Trivia

• Kirby's stock icon is one of three to show eyes (the others being Meta Knight and Sonic), likely due to it being a simplistic pink circle otherwise.
