This is a list of meteor smashes in Super Smash Bros. 4.
Characters who have an attack with a meteor smash hitbox are listed here, along with each attack. As the exact numerical distinction between "meteor smash" and "spike" is currently unknown, this page assumes that Brawl's range of 230-310 is at least similar. This list does not include unconventional meteor smashes.
It is worth mentioning that meteor cancelling has been removed in SSB4. As such, all meteor smashes in the game are functionally equivalent to spikes.
List
Bayonetta
- Down smash - Madama Butterfly's foot comes from above and stomps on the ground. This move can meteor smash opponents on the ledge and in the air.
- Down aerial - A stall-then-fall that meteor smashes at the hitbox on Bayonetta's foot. Has the highest base knockback out of any meteor smash in the game, being able to KO opponents offstage even at extremely low percentages.
Bowser
- Down tilt as Giga Bowser - The first claw swipe will meteor smash aerial opponents. Grounded opponents are buried instead.
- Down aerial - A stall-then-fall motion that meteor smashes as it begins its descent. Guaranteed to cause an SD if used off-stage.
Bowser Jr.
- Meteor Ejection (custom up special move) - The Clown Car crashing downwards will meteor smash opponents.
Captain Falcon
- Up tilt - Meteor smashes aerial opponents at the heel of the foot.
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes at the sweetspot in his legs.
- Raptor Boost (all variants) - The aerial version of the move meteor smashes aerial opponents right below Captain Falcon.
Charizard
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes with the clean hit.
- Sinking Skull (custom down special move) - Meteor smashes below Charizard with the sweetspot on its head.
Cloud
- Forward aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents at the sweetspot located at the end of the sword arc.
- Down aerial - The clean hit meteor smashes aerial opponents when they are struck along the center of the Buster Sword.
- Climhazzard - Meteor smashes when the follow-up attack is executed on opponents below Cloud.
- Omnislash - The penultimate hit is a meteor smash.
Corrin
- Down aerial - A stall-then-fall drill motion that meteor smashes at the final hitbox.
Dark Pit
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes at the center of the arc right below himself. Identical to Pit's. Fast but lacks power.
Diddy Kong
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes consistently throughout. Powerful when sweetspotted at Diddy Kong's fists, but only lasts one frame.
- Monkey Flip and Flying Monkey Flip - If Diddy Kong jumps after latching onto an opponent, they will be meteor smashed.
Donkey Kong
- Forward aerial - Meteor smashes when Donkey Kong's fists are directly in front of him. Very strong but is his slowest meteor.
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes when sweetspotted at his foot. His most effective meteor.
- Headbutt (all variants) - Meteor smashes aerial opponents when sweetspotted at Donkey Kong's face. His weakest meteor smash.
- Hand Slap - The aerial version meteor smashes with the second hit. Weak but his fastest and easiest to land meteor.
Duck Hunt
- Down aerial - Both hits meteor smash, though the first hit has very weak knockback designed to lead into the stronger second hit. The second hit only meteor smashes aerial opponents.
Falco
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents during the clean hit.
- Falco Phantasm - The aerial version meteor smashes aerial opponents with the phantasm behind Falco.
Fox
- Wolf Flash (custom side special move) - Meteor smashes at the end of the attack. Belonged to Wolf in Brawl.
Ganondorf
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes if the sweetspot in Ganondorf's legs connects. It is the strongest meteor smash in the game, being capable of KOing grounded opponents under 120%, even less with rage. Due to its electrical properties and thus extended hitlag, it cannot be teched by a grounded target.
- Flame Choke and Flame Wave - Weakly meteor smashes opponents, causing them to fall to the ground. If the move's grab connects in the air, a stall-then-fall grab motion brings both Ganondorf and his opponent downward until solid ground is hit or they both bypass the lower blastline. Should a soft platform be hit instead, on the opponent slightly overhangs a ledge Ganondorf will land on it, but his opponent will continue downward like normal, although recovering from it is possible in this scenario.
- Wizard's Foot and Wizard's Assault - Meteor smashes for the first few frames of Ganondorf's descent.
- Beast Ganon - The paralyzing hit is a powerful meteor smash.
Greninja
- Down aerial - A stall-then-fall motion that meteor smashes as it begins its descent.
- Substitute and Substitute Ambush - The downward angled version is a meteor smash.
- Secret Ninja Attack - The finishing blow is a meteor smash.
Ike
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes at the very tip of the blade.
- Aether and Aether Drive - Meteor smashes as Ike begins his descent.
- Great Aether - The penultimate attack is a meteor smash.
- Ikegreataetherspike.jpeg
Great Aether.
King Dedede
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents when hit with the center of the head of the hammer.
- Super Dedede Jump and Quick Dedede Jump - Meteor smashes aerial opponents while King Dedede is descending. Grounded opponents are buried instead.
Kirby
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes at the final hitbox.
- Final Cutter - Meteors as it begins its descending strike.
- Meteor Stone (custom down special move) - Meteor smashes while Kirby is descending.
Link
- Down tilt - Meteor smashes aerial opponents at the hilt of the sword.
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents during the clean hit.
- Meteor Bomb (custom down special move) - The bomb meteor smashes any aerial opponents. If the bomb explodes while Link is still holding it, it will also meteor smash him under the same circumstance.
Little Mac
- Down aerial (also applies to Giga Mac) - Weakest conventional meteor smash in the game. However, because of its quick startup, it is also the fastest meteor smash out of that of the other characters. Meteors at the fist.
- Grounding Blow (custom side special move) - Meteor smashes when Little Mac's fist reaches out.
Lucas
- Back aerial - Meteors aerial opponents at the tip of Lucas' foot.
- Down aerial - The last hit meteors opponents.
Lucina
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes at the center of the arc right below herself. Identical to Marth's besides the fact that the meteor and all other tipper hitboxes are weaker, but sourspots otherwise are stronger.
Luigi
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents during its clean hit. Has the lowest ending lag out of any meteor smash in the game, but it is rather weak and only lasts one frame.
- Down taunt - Meteor smashes powerfully when the swinging foot touches an aerial opponent. Is an OHKO when it connects, however, it has high startup and a small hitbox that make it impractical for edgeguarding, unless the opponent regrabs the ledge with their intangibility wasted.
Mario
- Forward aerial - Meteor smashes at the middle of the move as he swings his fist downwards. Much stronger than in other games, which combined with the removal of meteor canceling and the fact that it is easier to land makes it possibly his most powerful edgeguarding option, and is potentially lethal unless the opponent has very low damage or a large vertical recovery. Has high startup and ending lag however.
Marth
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes at the center of the arc. Only one frame has a meteor smash hitbox, making this a 'risk-and-reward' attack.
Mega Man
- Down aerial - The Hard Knuckle from Mega Man 3. Meteor smashes aerial opponents after the initial launch of the fist.
- Up aerial - The Air Shooter from Mega Man 2. It will only meteor smash immediately after being reflected, making it unique from other meteor smashes.
Mewtwo
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents with the tip of Mewtwo's foot.
Mii Brawler
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents with the clean hit.
- Headache Maker - Meteor smashes at the sweetspot on the Brawler's fists.
- Soaring Axe Kick - Meteor smashes during its descent.
- Head-On Assault - Meteor smashes aerial opponents during its descent. Grounded opponents are buried instead.
- Omega Blitz - The finishing blow is a meteor smash.
Mii Gunner
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents at the arm cannon's blast.
- Cannon Uppercut - The explosion meteor smashes aerial opponents.
Mii Swordfighter
- Stone Scabbard - Meteor smashes at its descent.
Mr. Game & Watch
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes as it begins its descent.
Ness
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes with the clean hit.
Olimar
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents with the clean hit.
- End of Day - Meteor smashes aerial opponents when the rocket launches and as it crash lands. Grounded opponents are buried instead.
Pac-Man
- Freaky Fruit (custom neutral special move) - Meteor smashes only when the key is thrown.
- Meteor Trampoline (custom up special move) - Meteor smashes aerial opponents below the trampoline when Pac-Man bounces on it and anyone who steps on the trampoline when it's red, including Pac-Man himself.
Palutena
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents.
- Rocket Jump - The aerial version meteor smashes aerial opponents with the explosion near the start of the move.
Pikachu
- Thunder - Meteor smashes when the cloud's hitbox connects.
- Meteor Quick Attack (custom up special move) - Meteor smashes when Pikachu is traveling in a given direction.
Pit
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes at the center of the arc right below himself. Fast but weak.
R.O.B.
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents at the center of the burner blast.
- Robo Rocket (custom up special move) - Meteor smashes as it begins its ascent.
Robin
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents only when the Levin Sword is active, and at the middle of the blade.
- Elwind - Meteor smashes at the clean hit of the first shot.
- Gliding Elwind - Meteor smashes at the clean hit of both shots.
- Pair Up - The finishing blow is a meteor smash.
Rosalina & Luma
- Down aerial - The ending frames from the ring produced by Rosalina's feet will produce a weak meteor smash. Luma's down aerial is not a meteor smash.
Roy
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents near the hilt.
Ryu
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents when the sweetspot on Ryu's knuckles connects. Launches at a noticeably diagonal angle, allowing it to knock even onstage aerial opponents that are fairly close to the edge into the bottom blast line.
Samus
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes at the center of the arc below Samus.
- Slip Bomb (custom down special move) - Meteor smashes aerial opponents.
Sheik
- Down aerial - A stall-then-fall motion that meteor smashes as it begins its descent. Extremely risky to use offstage due to its high falling speed, causing Sheik to inevitably self-destruct even if it is initiated at a fair height from the ground.
- Abyss (custom up special move) - Meteor smashes as Sheik disappears and reappears.
Shulk
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents when sweetspotted at the middle of Shulk's blade during the second hit.
Sonic
- Down aerial - A stall-then-fall motion that meteor smashes aerial opponents for a few frames after it begins its descent.
- Stomp (custom neutral special move) - Meteor smashes as it descends.
Toon Link
- Down aerial - A stall-then-fall motion that meteor smashes as it begins its descent.
Villager
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes at the clean hit only when three turnips are active. Startup wise, it is tied with Ryu's down aerial as the second fastest meteor smash in the game, with Little Mac's outspeeding it by one frame.
Wario
- Down aerial as Wario-Man - Meteor smashes at any time during the descent.
- Down throw as Wario-Man - Meteor smashes if used on a stage's edge.
Wii Fit Trainer
- Forward aerial - Meteor smashes at the outstretched foot. Like Ryu's down aerial, it launches at a noticeably diagonal angle (300°). However, it deals significantly less knockback than Wii Fit Trainer's other meteor smashes.
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes aerial opponents with the clean hit.
- Header (all variants) - Meteor smashes if hit with the Trainer's headbutt. Launches at a noticeably diagonal angle (295°).
Yoshi
- Forward aerial - Meteor smashes at the tip of Yoshi's nose.
Zelda
- Down aerial - Meteor smashes both with the clean hit and late hit, albeit the latter is significantly weaker.
- Farore's Windfall (custom up special move) - Meteor smashes as Zelda reappears.
Zero Suit Samus
- Down aerial - A stall-then-fall motion that meteor smashes aerial opponents as it begins its descent. Extremely risky to use offstage due to its high falling speed, causing Zero Suit Samus to inevitably self-destruct even if it is initiated at a fair height from the ground.
- Flip Jump - Meteor smashes at both the initial move's descent and the follow-up kick's sweetspot at the body. The former buries grounded opponents, while the latter only meteor smashes aerial opponents.
Enemies and bosses
- Bacura - Hitting a Bacura will meteor smash a player.
- Bonkers - Bonkers's jumping hammer attack is a meteor smash.
