Either on the frame or slightly before hitboxes collide (1-2 frames), the defending player must fully press the [[L button]] or [[R button]]. In order to V-cancel, the character must be airborne but not [[floating]], not in [[hitstun]], not in an attack animation, and cannot have fully pressed the L or R button within the last 40 frames. If done correctly, the initial knockback velocity is reduced to 0.95× the original, resulting in a 5% decrease in knockback.
