The goal of a wiki is to be informative and not to allow self promotion or free advertisement.  This policy outlines what is allowed, not allowed, and required when a user creates a page for a smasher.

Posting a page including info about a smasher in an [[wiktionary:objective|objective]] manner is fine, but we have all too many [[wikipedia:Wikisquatting|wikisquatters]] starting guild pages on a site meant to be mostly informative.  This could even be classified as [[wikipedia:Bandwidth theft|stealing our bandwidth]] which is illegal (at least in the U.S.)!  Please, if you want a wiki for your smasher, ask around; I am sure some generous user will help you get one set up.

== Required ==
All Smasher articles will be required to follow these specifications:

;Naming
:Smasher pages should be in the <code>Smasher</code> namespace.

:*The characters the smasher [[main character|mains]] in any or all of the three Super Smash Bros. games.

;Categorization
:The smasher page should also be properly categorized. This means they should probably be located in:
:* <code><nowiki>[[Category:<country> smashers]]</nowiki></code>

:There are also various categories more specific to each country. If you can provide a more specific category, such as [[:Category:Oregon smashers]], this is preferred, though not required.

;Redirects
:The smasher page will be allowed a maximum of three redirects out of the main namespace and into the Smasher namespace. No more than that will be allowed, and you will be requested to tag the ones you do not want for deletion. Otherwise, they will be chosen for you by an administrator.
:These redirects are not allowed to interfere with articles on in-game information.

== Allowed ==
The information here is allowed and encouraged in order to create an informative smasher page:

* List of which characters you play with, and your skill level with them, ''relative'' to each other. This means you cannot claim to be a professional, with ''any'' character. Should your page be changed to indicate that you are a professional by the community, then this is allowed.
* A link to your user profile on Smash World Forums, or here, on SmashWiki.
* A list of tournaments you have entered, and your final placements at each. These should be relatively well known, but this point allows for some slack to be given.
* Age, birth date, or any other public information in such a manner
* Current crews or teams you are a member of, as well as former crews or teams you have been a member of.
* Favorite character, if it is not your main.
* A list of perceived "rivals".

This is not necessarily a complete list. We do not mind you publishing other information that is useful or interesting to others; but it illustrates the gist of it: pages in SmashWiki are there for the visitors, and not your personal profile, which can be found at [[Special:Mypage|this page]]!

Posting the following types of information will result in your guild page being edited or deleted:

* Biased information - The content on a Wiki is meant to be informative, and this includes smasher pages. Smasher pages, like all other, should be written from a neutral point of view. This means you should not express things which are not easily verifiable, such as your wishes/wants/desires regarding the game of Smash.
* Items already discussed in [[#Allowed]].
* In general terms: don't put any material on the page that ''requires'' it to be updated frequently, or is only meant for members of the guild.

== Retired smashers ==
Articles about retired smashers will be removed from all categories except for[:Category:Retired smashers]], and will be kept for archival purposes.

Articles about non existent smashers can and will be nominated for [[SmashWiki:Deletion policy|speedy deletion]].

== Smasher stubs ==
Stubs for smashers can be created in preparation of expanding the article with more information.  If you create a stub, use the {{template|smasher-stub}} tag at the top of your article.  Smasher pages marked as stubs which have not been edited for 30 days will be nominated for speedy deletion and subsequently deleted. * A page not containing the [[#Required|required information]] should be marked <code>{{t|smasher-stub}}</code>.
* A smasher page stub should be marked <code>{{t|D}}</code> after 30 days if it has not been fixed.
* A page containing [[#Not allowed|disallowed content]] can be edited to comply, '''or''' you can mark it with <nowiki><code>{{t|smasher-violation}}</code></nowiki>, which places it in <nowiki>[[:Category:Articles with possible policy violations]]</nowiki> for someone else to fix.
* Users that insist on having information on their smasher page that is not allowed, and revert improvements others make, will be considered vandals, and possibly blocked from editing this wiki.

== Implementation ==
Should this policy be implemented, all pages are to be moved to the smasher namespace within the time of one week. When all the articles have been moved, the thirty day countdown will begin for all smasher articles still tagged with {{t|smasher-stub}}. Should these pages be in other ways in violation of this policy, <nowiki>{{t|smasher-violation}}</nowiki> will be added, or the articles will be edited to be in line with this policy.

== Summary ==
Please remember that SmashWiki is a place where users go to obtain information about Super Smash Bros, not to get spammed with what can be seen as useless information, especially to casual players.  Smashers are certainly a large part of SmashWiki and can be represented here, but they must follow the proper criteria and not participate in spewing said useless biased information or wikisquatting.  Your target audience is not yourself or your friends, it is people interested in Smash. Your smasher page should reflect this!
