Jibanyan, Nate, and Whisper are voiced by Alicyn Packard, | Nate & Yo-kai (Keita and Youkai in the Japanese version), or simply Yo-kai, is a playable "team character" in the entirely fictional Super Smash Bros. Dream, as well as the equally fictional Super Smash Bros.: The Next Melee. They were confirmed as unlockable newcomers for both games by Coonfoot on January 20, 2016. Despite the team name, Nate doesn't do any of the fighting. He simply stands in the background alongside Whisper, his Yo-kai butler, and helps summon Yo-kai for special moves. The Yo-kai that players control is Jibanyan, who is considered the mascot of the Yo-kai Watch series. Nate and Whisper coach Jibanyan throughout each match and react to many things he does. When the team is out of stocks or stamina and Jibanyan is no longer able to fight, Nate sadly hangs his head for the rest of the match, while Whisper consoles him. At first glance, this team is similar to that of the Pokémon Trainer, but Jibanyan is never actually switched with another Yo-kai.
Jibanyan, Nate, and Whisper are voiced by Alicyn Packard, Jonny Yong Bosch, and J.W. Terry in the English version, respectively. In the Japanese version, they're voiced by Etsuko Kozakura, Haruka Tomatsu, and Tomokazu Seki, respectively.

| Komajiro's Lightning || || Komajiro appears in front of Jibanyan and summons lightning bolts that acts as a shield. It's like Coughkoff's Spiky Guard, in that it's damaging to the touch and causes the most damage at the start, but it causes more damage, causes brief paralysis, and can't be held as long. It also has more range, so it can be used as a regular attack and not just a shield. | | Komajiro's Lightning || || Komajiro appears in front of Jibanyan and summons lightning bolts that acts as a shield. :: | ::Nate is an average boy who possesses a Yo-kai Watch, a device that allows its wearer to see otherwise invisible creatures known as Yo-kai. In Smash Bros., Nate and his Yo-kai butler Whisper stand on the sidelines and coach their lead Yo-kai Jibanyan. While he can't normally be seen by humans without the Yo-kai Watch, Jibanyan has agreed to make himself visible to make things fair for other fighters. Other Yo-kai will also become visible, but only when they attack. | ||

While half of | While half of Nate & Yo-kai's costumes are simple recolors, the other half changes the team into Katie & Yo-kai. Whisper and Jibanyan's lines slightly change, as well, with "Nate" being replaced with "Katie."
