'''Upstate New York''', sometimes referred to as just '''New York''', is a ''Smash'' region that encompasses the region of {{iw|wikipedia|New York|state}} that is outside the New York City metropolitan area. It borders the New York and Pennsylvania portions of [[Tristate]]; the Pennsylvania portion of the [[Midwest]]; the [[New England]] states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont; and the Canadian provinces of [[Ontario]] and [[Quebec]]. Due to their location, upstate New York often crosses over with the Ontario and New York City scenes, though they also have active scenes in their cities' metropolitan areas.

Though often overshadowed by the New York City scene, upstate New York has fostered a noteworthy scene in competitive ''Smash''. One of the first notable players from this region was {{Sm|San}}, who became the best {{SSBB|Ike}} player in ''[[Brawl]]'' and was instrumental in the character's rise on the ''Brawl'' tier lists. The region remained rather obscure until late into ''Smash 4''{{'}}s lifespan, where both {{Sm|Dark Wizzy}} and {{Sm|SDX}} made a name for themselves in the ''Smash 4'' competitive scene. This continued into the start of the ''Ultimate'' scene with Dark Wizzy remaining the region's primary representation in competitive play, while the post-pandemic landscape saw the meteoric rise of {{Sm|Jmook}}, who became one of the best ''Melee'' players during this time.
