:This needs some proof, but here's what I know: Every device has a limit on the number of sounds it is physically able to produce at one time (for the Wii U, I think it's 32 for each channel (mono is 1 channel, stereo is 2, surround is 4)). If the game instructs the system to produce more sounds than the system allows, the old sounds will stop (starting with the oldest), allowing for the new sounds to play.
