:: The track wasn’t in SSB4 unless it came with Lucas’ DLC.

EarthBound Beginnings or Mother
During my rewrite I've noticed some sections on this page (as well as the wiki overall) refer to the first game as Mother, and others as EarthBound Beginnings. It's rather inconsistant now, so I feel we should have a consistent name to use. The game has been out for five years and both terms overall are equally used, plus now in Ultimate the game is consistently referred to as EarthBound Beginnings. While the title Mother has been used longer, still using the name feels rather outdated, yet even still EarthBound Beginnings has only been used recently. Despite us not always using official names, I believe, much like with the Powershield debate, EarthBound Beginnings sees usage in both the fandom and now officially, further adding to this when I discussed this on WikiBound it was agreed we use EarthBound Beginnings in general, while Mother is to be used specifically for the Japanese release.
Both names have good reasons to be used, and as for me personally though the way I think is the best is to use "Mother" when referring to the Japanese release or in an instance where it's specifically referred to as such in Smash, and the general term should be "EarthBound Beginnings". The same can be done with other articles, and if necessary we can clarify at the start of the article with something like "(known as Mother in japan)" or "(localized as EarthBound Beginnings)" and use EarthBound Beginnings as the general term throught the article. :I think it would make sense to standardize using EarthBound Beginnings at this point; the name "EarthBound Beginnings" has been in common use for five years now, it's the official English title of the game, and it is the name used ingame as of Ultimate. However, I think it would be appropriate to leave it as "Mother" when previous Smash games have used it - for example, stickers in Brawl. Though, I'm not sure if those kinds of clarifications would be necessary... considering that articles also already state the Japanese name at the beginning anyway, it feels redundant to add a "known as Mother in Japan" bit there. ::Personally I too think it'll get very redundant to always put a clarification for this, it was more of an "if needed" thing, which I don't really think it is. Prioritize "EarthBound Beginnings", with a note saying "known as Mother in Japan". That's my take. <span style="color: blue;">Aidan</span>, <span style="color: blue;">the Rurouni</span> 20:50, January 27, 2021 (EST)
:Agreed with this; same deal as EarthBound and Mother 2. ~ <span style="color: #e68;">StrawberryChan</span> (talk) 21:56, January 27, 2021 (EST)
Said it on Discord and figured I'd make it clear on-wiki too: "Mother" is the more widely-known name and has been used in Smash in Melee, Brawl, and SSB4. While "EarthBound Beginnings" is official, I feel it should be used only in reference to the English VC release or when Ultimate explicitly names it as such; otherwise, "Mother" should be prioritized. The difference is that EarthBound has been known as such in English since it was localized a year after its Japanese release, whereas "EarthBound Beginnings" was invented as a title decades later. ::"Mother" is the more widely-known name and has been used in Smash in Melee, Brawl, and SSB4
:True, but when do we have another case where the Japanese title is used because it outshines/has been used longer than the English name?
::The difference is that EarthBound has been known as such in English since it was localized a year after its Japanese release, whereas "EarthBound Beginnings" was invented as a title decades later.
:So if EarthBound wasn't localized until 2015 we'd call it Mother 2 instead because it's been used longer? Sounds really silly. ::Let's not get into what-ifs and hypotheticals here. This is a fairly specific case where we have 20+ years and 3 Smash games where "Mother" was the consistent, common-usage term and only in the mid-2010s did the EarthBound Beginnings title even come into existence. There's a longer history of Western fans using the invented "EarthBound Zero" title than the new official English title. While we would be remiss to not mention "EarthBound Beginnings" as a name, I don't think we should necessarily feel obligated to prioritize it. :::Both names are used equally and have valid reasons to be used, only difference is one has existed longer than the other. I still don't think this is a valid reason to discredit using EarthBound Beginnings but best to wait to see what everyone else thinks is best. == Cut tracks ==
Should the cut tracks really count as representation in the "Media with elements appearing in the Super Smash Bros. series" section of this page? The Fire Emblem and Metal Gear universe pages are also like this currently, and i don't agree with them counting as representation, because they're unused. Yes, they're were planned by the devs to be added into the game, but they eventually cut them mid development, and as such are not there representing those series in the actual game anymore, unlike the likes of "Unfounded Revenge / Smashing Song of Praise". And it's not like we know some the origin of all unused music from Brawl, there's some unused tracks from both the Mario and Wario universes that there's no way of being certain of what game those unused tracks came from, and it besides that, it would be weird to have some pages containing information about unused tracks and some that don't. --Improvisado (talk • contribs) 15:41, September 11, 2022  (GMT-3)
I agree, this stuff should absolutely be removed, or at most put in a separate section for unused content (but I would rather not do this). Rdrfc (talk) 16:04, September 11, 2022 (EDT)
