Editing SSBMRank 2023

The '''SSBMRank 2023''' lists the world's top 100 ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]'' players in 2023 as compiled by [[Melee Stats]]. The rankings were announced in a series of articles published by [[start.gg]] from January 15th-26th, 2024.

 

For the first time in ''Smash'' history, the #1 player was not decided by the panelists, but instead was decided by a [[Tournament:The Match|special exhibition]] between {{Sm|Zain}} and {{Sm|Cody Schwab}}, with Cody ultimately winning.

29 people, such as top players, tournament organizers, writers, and analysts were chosen to be panelists for this edition of [[SSBMRank]]. The panelists were asked to rank each ballot-eligible player based on their quality of results from December 19th, 2022 to December 17th, 2023 with a value between 1 and 120, and then each player’s rating was aggregated to a single value based on their distribution of votes.

**{{Sm|Egg$}} became the first {{SSBM|Yoshi}} player other than {{Sm|aMSa}} to be ranked on a year-long global ''Melee'' ranking since {{Sm|nebbii}} on the [[2018 MPGR]], as well as the first Yoshi player from North America to do so.

**{{Sm|Cody Schwab}} became the first number 1-ranked player on a year-long global ''Melee'' ranking to be ranked with solo {{SSBM|Fox}}.

*This is the first year where {{Sm|ChuDat}}, {{Sm|SFAT}}, and {{Sm|Leffen}} did not appear on a year-long global ''Melee'' ranking. The first two did not meet activity requirements to be listed on the ballot, and the majority of panelists abstained on ranking Leffen due to him not attending any events in the latter half of 2023.

**This also makes Leffen the first player to win a major without receiving an end-of-year ranking in the same ranking period.
